Miller Magic: Lady Chaps Win a Thriller Against Texas A&M Int'l

LCU Enters Top Five in LSC Standings

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 19, 2024) --Lubbock Christian University secured a 3-2 victory over Texas A&M International at home in the LCU Soccer & Track Complex Saturday, which ended a two-match losing streak and propelled the Lady Chaps into fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings.

Lubbock Christian improved to 6-5-2 overall and 4-3-1 in Lone Star action with the win. In addition, the Lady Chaps added to their strong home record, moving to 4-2-1. TAMIU fell to 3-5-5 overall and 2-3-3 in conference matches. The result moved the Dustdevils into ninth in the Lone Star standings.
 
How it Happened
Lubbock Christian took a 1-0 lead when Bonnie Miller recorded her second goal of the season in the 11th minute, assisted by Journey Curs. The Dustdevils responded to tie the game on a goal from Krysan St. Louis in the 54th minute, assisted by Gabriela Mendez-Ortiz. Lubbock Christian then broke the 1-1 tie on Avery Jennings' 60th-minute goal for her fifth goal of the season. Ella Spiller assisted the goal. The Lady Chaps made it a 3-1 lead with a 63rd-minute goal from Curs. Miller assisted on the goal, which was Curs' third goal of the season. Tex. A&M Int'l made it a 3-2 game on Sammy Hecht's goal in the 87th minute, assisted by Rosa Caird.
 
Game Notes

  • In her first start of the season, Megan Mirabal totaled three saves for the Lady Chaps out of six total Dustdevils shots. She improved her record to 2-0-0 on the season and 5-1-1 in her LCU career.
  • Lubbock Christian peppered 12 shots on goal, the most since they recorded 14 against Eastern New Mexico on Oct. 2.
  • Avery Jennings netted her team leading fifth goal and she has eight in her LCU career.
  • Freshman Ella Spiller added her team-leading fifth assist.
  • Freshman Journey Curs recorded both her third goal and assist of the season.
  • Another freshman, Bonnie Miller, led the Lady Chaps in points, scoring three in the match with one goal and an assist.
  • Lubbock Christian improved their all-time series lead against TAMIU to 13-2.
  • LCU is now 4-2-1 at home this season.

 
What's Next?
Lubbock Christian will remain at home and welcome West Texas A&M to the LCU Soccer and Track Complex on Wednesday Oct. 23. This match will be the newest installment of the Rivalry on the Range and will also be Staff Appreciation Night for Lubbock Christian. The Lady Buffs enter the match with a 6-6 record overall and are 3-4 in Lone Star matches. In their last match, West Texas A&M was shutout 6-0 by No. 11 Dallas Baptist in Dallas. The Lady Chaps will look to start a new winning streak as they have first touch with WTAMU at approximately 5:00 p.m. from the LCU Soccer and Track Complex.
