Lady Chaps Draw With Lady Buffs After Rivalry on the Range Meeting

LCU Remains Unbeaten by WT in Three-Match Span

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 23, 2024) -- Lubbock Christian University and West Texas A&M played to a 1-1 draw Wednesday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. Despite a hard-fought match, neither team could break the deadlock, resulting in the Lady Chaps and Lady Buffs finishing their annual "Rivalry on the Range" showdown without a winner.

The tie moved Lubbock Christian's record to 6-5-3 overall and 4-3-2 in Lone Star play. Furthermore, the Chaparrals remain a strong home team, now holding a 4-2-2 record in Lubbock this season. West Texas A&M gained their first tie of the season, moving their overall record to 6-6-1 and 3-4-1 in conference matches.

How it Happened

West Texas A&M opened the scoring when Mollie Ferro scored in the eighth minute. Ferro was able to make a break into Chaparral defensive territory, where she sent a shot over that was unable to be gathered by the Lady Chap defense and rolled into the back of the net.

The Lady Chaps evened the game with a goal from Ella Spiller -- her fifth goal of the season -- in the 33rd minute, assisted by Emma Best. A foul and subsequent yellow card for Jordan Beardon on Avery Jennings, set Lubbock Christian up with a free kick deep inside their offensive zone. Best sent the kick into the box where it found the Spiller, who quickly headed it in for the equalizer.

The goal ended the scoring in the match, as Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M played to a 1-1 draw.
