Silencing the Howls: Lady Chaps Shutout Sul Ross State in Alpine.

LCU Wins First Ever Meeting Against Lobos

ALPINE, Texas (October 26, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University secured a 1-0 shutout victory over Sul Ross State on the road at Lobo Soccer Field Saturday. This inaugural matchup marked the Lady Chaps' first-ever win in the series against the Lobos and earned them a Lone Star Conference victory.
 

The win boosted Lubbock Christian's record to 7-5-3 overall and 5-3-2 in Lone Star play, which moves the Lady Chaps into fourth place in the conference. Sul Ross State fell to 2-11 overall and 0-9 in conference matches, as they were in pursuit of their first-ever Lone Star Conference win (their first season as a member of the conference).

 

How it Happened

Lubbock Christian opened the scoring when Claire Jacobson scored a goal - her second goal of the season - in the 68th minute, assisted by Ella Spiller. The lone goal was the only score in the game, as the Lady Chaps held onto for a 1-0 shutout win.

 

Game Notes

  • Megan Mirabal piled up two saves for the Lady Chaps out of four total Lobo shots, recording her first shutout of the season and second of her career. Her last shutout came in her second-ever start as a Lady Chap, a 3-0 victory over Adams State on September 9, 2021.
  • Ella Spiller recorded her sixth assist of the season, which ties her for the most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Claire Jacobson netted her second goal of the season, becoming the fifth Lady Chap to score multiple goals this season.
  • Lubbock Christian registered at least nine shots on goal for the third consecutive match.
  • Lubbock Christian moves to 1-0 all-time against Sul Ross State.
  • The Lady Chaps improve to 4-2-2 on the road.

 

What's Next?

Lubbock Christian will continue a three-game road trip, as they head to Tyler Friday for a match against UT Tyler. The Patriots currently occupy the third-place slot in the Lone Star Conference standings, leading Lubbock Christian by one conference point. Lubbock Christian and UT Tyler will look to continue their late season pushes with a pivotal victory when they have first touch at 5:30 p.m. from Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex Friday.
