Jacobson's Lone Goal Leads Lady Chaps to Shutout of UT Tyler

LCU Has Won Back to Back Road LSC Matches

TYLER, Texas (November 1, 2024) – Powered by a standout performance from goalkeeper Megan Mirabal and a decisive goal from Claire Jacobson, Lubbock Christian University secured a 1-0 shutout victory over UT Tyler on Friday at the Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. The Lady Chaps extended their unbeaten streak to four matches and notched back-to-back road wins in Lone Star Conference play.

The win boosted Lubbock Christian's record to 8-5-3 overall and 6-3-2 in Lone Star action. Furthermore, the Lady Chaps launched into the third place slot in the Lone Star Conference standings with the victory. UT Tyler fell to 10-3-3 overall and 5-3-3 in conference play following the loss. In addition, the Patriots had their two-match win streak snapped and slip into a tie for fourth in the Lone Star Conference standings.

 

How it Happened

Lubbock Christian broke the scoreless draw when Claire Jacobson scored her third goal of the season in the 30th minute, assisted by Ella Spiller and Bonnie Miller.

Lubbock Christian and UT Tyler exchanged blows throughout the match, with the teams recording a near identical shot number, as Lubbock Christian held the slight 11-10 advantage.

As a result of strong defense and goalkeeping from both teams, neither team added another goal, and the game ended with a 1-0 shutout win for Lubbock Christian.

 

Game Notes

  • Megan Mirabal piled up three saves for the Lady Chaps out of 10 total Patriots shots, recording her second consecutive shutout.
  • Mirabal moves to 3-0-1 this season, the only Lady Chap goalkeeper with an unbeaten record.
  • Claire Jacobson netted her third goal, tying her for second most on the team. This was Jacobson's second match recording the lone goal.
  • Ella Spiller recorded her seventh assist of the season, extending the team lead in her first season with the Lady Chaps.
  • Bonnie Miller also gained an assist, bringing her season total to three.
  • Lubbock Christian grows their all-time series lead over UT Tyler to 4-1.
  • The Lady Chaps are now 4-3-1 in road matches this season, with a 4-1-1 road Lone Star Conference record.

What's Next?

Lubbock Christian will have a quick turnaround, as the Lady Chaps return to action Monday in San Angelo for a Lone Star Conference battle with Angelo State. The conference leading Rambelles are unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play, with a 7-0-3 record and are 9-1-5 overall. In addition, Angelo State is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. Angelo State faces off with Sul Ross State Friday before welcoming the Lady Chaps to start the week. Lubbock Christian and Angelo State will meet in a monumental matchup in the Lone Star Conference Monday at 7 p.m. from LeGrand Soccer Complex.
