Lady Chaps Suffer 3-1 Loss to Angelo State

LCU Has Its Two-Match Shutout Streak Snapped

SAN ANGELO, Texas (November 5, 2024) -- Lubbock Christian University fell 3-1 in a Lone Star Conference match against Angelo State on Monday at LeGrand Soccer Complex. The Lady Chaps were unable to contain the offensive firepower of the first-place Rambelles, resulting in their first loss in three matches.

Lubbock Christian dropped to 8-6-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the Lone Star Conference with the defeat. The loss was the first for Lubbock Christian since October 16 against Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City Angelo State remained first in the Lone Star with the win, with a 10-1-5 overall and 8-0-3 conference record. The Rambelles have not lost a match in their last 15 outings, as they will look to secure the Lone Star Conference regular season title Wednesday.


How it Happened

Angelo State opened scoring when Sophia Barrientos scored in the 65th minute. Sanai Stewart.assisted the goal.

The Rambelles extended their lead to 2-0 in the 70th minute on a goal from Christina Clark, assisted by Katelin Heise.

Continuing their offensive flurry, Angelo State tacked on another goal from Clark in the 72nd-minute goal, which was assisted by Stewart. This goal would expand the Rambelle's lead to 3-0.

The Lady Chaps made it a 3-1 game with an 85th-minute goal from Ceci Madrid, her second goal of the season, as Journey Curs assisted the goal. The score remained the same, as Angelo State held on for the 3-1 victory.

  • Megan Mirabal recorded two saves for the Lady Chaps out of 16 total Rams shots.
  • Mirabal's record moves to 4-1-1, snapping her unbeaten streak through four matches.
  • Ceci Madrid netted her second goal of the season, becoming the sixth mutli-goal scorer for the Lady Chaps.
  • Lubbock Christian remains winless against Angelo State all-time (0-7-1).
  • Madrid's goal ended LCU's scoring drought of 479:37 in the all-time series.
  • Lubbock Christian drops to 4-4-1 on the road this season.

What's Next?
Lubbock Christian returns home for their regular season finale Thursday, with a match against Texas Woman's awaiting them. The Pioneers had their match against UT Tyler Monday canceled due to inclement weather conditions. As a result, Texas Woman's remains in the third place spot in the Lone Star Conference standings. Both teams will be looking to end their strong regular seasons with a victory and make a case to host in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
