Streak Snapped: No.15 Angelo State Sweeps LCU in San Angelo Showdown

Five-Match Win Streak Ends as LCU Falls 3-0 to Belles in LSC Action

SAN ANGELO, Texas (October 26, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University had their five-match win streak snapped Saturday inside Junell Center, as No.15 Angelo State swept the Lady Chaps in three sets 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 13-25) in Lone Star Conference play.
 
The loss dropped Lubbock Christian's record to 11-9 overall and 7-3 in LSC action. While the Lady Chaps had their win streak come to a close, the Belles (19-2, 9-1) extended their win streak to seven games with the win.
 
Payton Murray finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Lady Chaps offense. Defensively, LCU had three players reach double figures in digs: Leddy Rae Guinn led with 16, followed by Abby Benitez and Kayton Genenbacher, each contributing 12.
 
Game Notes
» Lubbock Christian had three players in double figures in digs, as they finished with 61 digs, which were a season-high for a three-set match.

» LCU had a season-low in aces with two served during the match.

» Payton Murray had a team-high 12 kills for Lubbock Christian. She was the only Lady Chap in double figures in kills and she has produced at least 10 kills in eight of the last nine matches. She had a career-high 43 kill attempts in the match, which is the highest total by a Lady Chaps member in a three-set match this season and the most since Aaliyah Gray had 48 attempts at UT Permian Basin on Oct. 8, 2022.

» Lubbock Christian attackers were helped by a team-high 29 assists from Kayton Genenbacher. She also added 12 digs to complete her 10th double-double of the season and 34th of her career.
 
» LCU fell to 3-6 in road matches on the season.
 
» The Lady Chaps are 0-2 this season in matches against nationally ranked programs.
 
» The win marked ASU's ninth consecutive win in the head-to-head series and they have a 26-9 all-time series lead. The Belles improved to 14-5 all-time against LCU in San Angelo.

» The Belles were led by Evelyn Torres and Madi Parrish, who each had 12 kills. Adeline Ortman completed a double-double with 33 assists and 14 digs.
 
How It Happened
 
SET 1 | The Lady Chaps found themselves in an early deficit, dropping the first set 25-20. Angelo State never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up three times (as late as 17-17)  before the Belles closed out the set on an 8-3 scoring surge. Murray led LCU with six kills in the set, as LCU produced 17 kills in the set despite falling in the set.
 
SET 2 | Lubbock Christian then dropped set two 25-20 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. They trailed 15-9 before crawling back with a 4-0 run and trailed 20-18 before the Belles won the set 25-20. Bryleigh Schweer led LCU with five kills in the set.
 
SET 3 | Angelo State finished off the sweep with a set-three win. The Lady Chaps fell in a tough set 25-13. ASU closed the set on a 10-3 run, including a 5-0 run to close the match. LCU was held to seven kills in the set, as they produced 12 attack errors.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
LCU remains on the road and heads to San Antonio, Texas Friday to face St. Mary's at 6 p.m. inside Bill Greehey Arena.
