Kara Murray Shines in Draw With St. Mary's

LCU Goalkeeper Records Five Saves in Second Straight Start

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (October 5, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University extended its unbeaten streak to three matches, battling St. Mary's to a scoreless draw on Saturday at Sigma Beta Chi Field. With the result, both teams now hold identical records of 4-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

How it Happened

Lubbock Christian struggled to break the deadlock in the first half, as both teams exchanged shots throughout the period. The Lady Chaps headed into halftime with a 6-3 advantage in shots.

St. Mary's came out strong in the second half, launching an impressive eight shots. However, LCU's defense stood firm, preventing any goals during the period. Despite not recording a shot themselves in the second half, LCU managed to secure a draw against the Rattlers. Goalkeeper Kara Murray was instrumental in this effort, making her second start of the season and successfully saving all five shots on goal from St. Mary's.


Game Notes

  • Goalkeeper Kara Murray piled up five saves for the Lady Chaps out of 11 total Rattlers shots. She improved her record to 1-0-1 on the season.
  • The last time LCU played a 0-0 tie was Oct. 29, 2022, and it ironically was in San Antonio against StMU. LCU had four 0-0 ties during the 2022 season.
  • Lubbock Christian registered six shots, four of them on goal.
  • St. Mary's was in foul trouble, committing 17 to only two for the Lady Chaps.
  • The result moves the all-time series to 8-6-4 in favor of LCU. They are 2-2-3 in matches played in San Antonio.
  • St. Mary's remains unbeaten by LCU in the last five meetings, notching a 3-0-2 record.
  • The Lady Chaps are now 2-0-1 in their last three conference matches and find themselves in the top half of the conference standings. The result has both teams tied for sixth in the Lone Star Conference standings.

What's Next?
The Lady Chaps will stay on their road trip, as they travel to Odessa, Texas to take on the UT Permain Basin. The Falcons suffered a 3-0 home loss to Dallas Baptist on Saturday to send them to a 3-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 conference record.
