Jennings' Gem: Lady Chaps Down UT Permian Basin For Third LSC Win

Avery Jennings Scored Both Goals in the Match

ODESSA, Texas (October 9, 2024) -- Avery Jennings delivered Lubbock Christian University's first multi-goal performance of the season, leading the Lady Chaparrals to a 2-0 victory over UT Permian Basin Wednesday at UTPB Soccer Field. The win marked LCU's third consecutive shutout in Lone Star Conference play.

The Lady Chaps improved to 5-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Lone Star action following the win. In addition, this is the third victory in the last four matches for Lubbock Christian (unbeaten in all four games). UT Permian Basin fell to 3-3-2 and 1-2-1 in conference play following the loss. The Falcons have now lost back-to-back Lone Star Conference games since starting the season 1-0-1.
 
How it Happened

Lubbock Christian broke the scoreless 0-0 tie when senior Avery Jennings scored her fourth goal of the season in the ninth minute, assisted by freshman Ella Spiller. Spiller sent a crossing pass into the box, directly to Jennings, resulting in a 1-0 Lady Chap advantage. Jennings and the Lady Chaps grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the 55th minute with an unassisted goal for her fourth goal of the season,

The 2-0 score was held to the end of the game, despite the Falcons outshooting the Lady Chaps 8-0 to close the match.
 
Game Notes

  • Avery Jennings becomes the leading goal scorer for LCU and ranks eighth in the conference, netting four this season. The multi-goal game was the first of her career and she has seven career goals.
  • Kara Murray (2-0-1) totaled five saves for the Lady Chaps out of 14 total Falcons' shots, and she has yet to concede a goal through three starts. She has a scoreless sequence season active at 270 minutes.
  • LCU has an active shutout sequence of 276:44 and they have claimed three consecutive shutouts for the first time since the first three matches of the 2022 season.
  • Ella Spiller's assist on Jennings' first goal was her fourth of the season, ranking her third in the Lone Star Conference.
  • UTPB outshot Lubbock Christian 14-8, but both teams ended with five shots on goals.
  • Lubbock Christian remains unbeaten by UTPB in their last 11 meetings.
  • The Lady Chaps now lead the overall series, 13-2-2.
  • LCU improved to 2-2-1 in road play this season.

Lubbock Christian will return to action later this week as they host No. 9 Dallas Baptist. The Patriots remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play with a 2-0-2 record, placing them third in the standings. In their most recent match, Dallas Baptist played to a 1-1 draw with UT Tyler in Dallas Wednesday. The Lady Chaps, aiming to extend their four-game unbeaten streak and climb further in the competitive Lone Star Conference, will face off against Dallas Baptist at approximately 1:00 p.m. at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
