LAREDO, Texas (October 9,2024) – Lubbock Christian University rallied from a 1-0 deficit to knock off Texas A&M - International 4-3 Wednesday on the road at Dustdevil Field. With the result, the Chaparrals gained their first Lone Star Conference win of the season.
The win boosted Lubbock Christian's record to 4-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in Lone Star play. Texas A&M – International fell to 2-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.
How it Happened
Texas A&M - International Dereck Espinal gave the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute, after he scored an unassisted goal. The Chaparrals quickly responded, with Geoffroy Letienne knocking in the equalizing goal off of a penalty kick in the 19th minute. LCU added another goal in the 31st minute by Justin Martinez, and assisted by Manu Nunez, to take their first lead of the match. The Dustdevils rallied back, scoring the leveling goal in the 35th minute from Inaki Solabarrieta, who was assisted by Daniel Galindo and Yahir Gallardo.
Both teams were locked in a scoreless deadlock for roughly 30 minutes, before Justin Martinez netted his second goal of the match in the 65th minute. Francisco Horta scored again for the Chaparrals in the 71st minute, being assisted by Nunez, to put them in front 4-2. Byron Aguilar scored for the Dustdevils in the 81st minute, giving the Chaparrals a fight down the stretch.

- Connor Pettigrew piled up seven saves for the Chaparrals out of 18 total Dustdevils shots, preserving his top five standing for saves in the conference. He improved to 4-3-3.
- Manu Nunez recorded two assists in the match, bringing him up to seventh in the Lone Star Conference with three.
- LCU's four goals (most goals scored by LCU of the 12 all-time meetings against TAMIU) marked a season-high total.
- Justin Martinez and Geoffroy Letienne each are up to three goals on the season, becoming the team's co-leaders in goals scored (both are in their first season as Chaparrals).
- Lubbock Christian now leads the all-time series, 7-5 and they are 5-2 all-time in Laredo.
- There has still never been a tie in 12 meetings between the LCU and TAMIU.

Lubbock Christian returns home to host UT Tyler on Saturday (Oct. 12), looking to continue the strong play of their last match. UT Tyler enters the match coming off a 2-1 loss against No. 22 Midwestern State. The Patriots boast a record of 2-4-3 overall and 0-1-2 in the Lone Star.
