Boxed Out: Lady Chaps' Season Ends in LSC Quarterfinals

Lady Chaps Fall to Top-Seeded West Texas A&M in Straight Sets

CANYON Texas (November 21, 2024) – No.8-seeded Lubbock Christian University had their season come to an end in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Championships, as they fell 3-0 in a "Rivalry on the Range" road match against top-seeded and tournament host No.5 West Texas A&M (17-25, 22-25, 17-25) Thursday night inside WTAMU Fieldhouse ("The Box").
 
The postseason loss closes Lubbock Christian's season record to 13-14 on the season.
Kiana Fallaha finished with 11 kills on the day to lead the Lady Chaps attack. They also received 14 digs from Leddy Rae Guinn to lead them defensively.
 
WTAMU advances to the semifinals with the win, as they received 12 kills from Kaycee Cavanaugh. The Lady Buffs improved to 24-3 on the season.
 
Game Notes
» Freshman Leddy Rae Guinn led LCU with 14 digs and also produced LCU's lone serving ace in the match.

» Kiana Fallaha had a team-high 11 kills for Lubbock Christian. The senior played her final match as a Lady Chap and compiled 830 career kills and 478 digs in 76 career matches.

» Lubbock Christian attackers were helped by a team-high 22 assists from Kayton Genenbacher, who played her 92nd and final match as a Lady Chap. Genenbacher leaves LCU ranking seventh in program history in career assists with 3,237. She posted 1,159 assists this season, which is the most in a single season by the Lady Chaps since Jordan Goings produced 1,343 in 2009.
 
» LCU closed the season with a 4-8 record in road games.

» The Lady Chaps dropped to 1-3 all-time in LSC Championship (tournament) contests. They were making their third all-time appearance (sixth season) and first since 2021.
 
» The contest was the 53rd meeting all-time between the two squads, but the first in a postseason setting. The win places the Lady Buffs with a 38-14-1 all-time series lead and it was their fifth consecutive win over LCU, who falls to 5-22 all-time inside The Box.
 
How It Happened
 
SET 1 | The Lady Chaps found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-17. Lubbock Christian trailed by as many as 10 points as West Texas A&M grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was notted up five times before the Buffaloes took control with a 6-1 run to break a 5-5 tie. WT had a 17-9 kill advantage in the opening frame.
 
SET 2 | A 25-22 second-set loss put Lubbock Christian behind 2-0 in the match. West Texas A&M grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 in a set that was knotted up six times before the Buffaloes took over late with a 5-2 run to close the set. Kiana Fallaha led LCU in the middle frame with five kills. WT produced five serving errors in the set.
 
SET 3 | Lubbock Christian could not win set three and was swept by West Texas A&M. The Lady Chaps fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set 25-17. Payton Murray had five kills in the losing cause to close the match.
