Chaps Close Out Colorado Road Trip Against Regis

LCU Looking For 2-0 Weekend in Centennial State

RV LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (2-1)
at REGIS (0-1)
Saturday, Nov. 9 – 5:30 p.m. MST / 6:30 p.m. CST
Regis Fieldhouse (Denver, Colorado)

TIPOFF
Lubbock Christian will close out competition in the South Central Region Crossover at 5:30 p.m. MT on Saturday with a matchup against Regis. The Chaps are looking to go 2-0 in the non-conference trip to the Centennial State after Friday night's upset win against No. 8 Colorado School of Mines. The last time LCU went 2-0 in this regional challenge was the 2021-22 season when they got wins against these same two squads at the Rip Griffin Center.

FIVE THINGS TO FOCUS ON
1 | The Chaps spread the offense around in their Friday night win, getting double figures from four different players. Amondo Miller Jr. led the way with 21, followed by Ethan Duncan with 18, Najeeb Muhammad with 17 and Jaylen Thompson with 12. It was the first time this season that four different LCU players have reached the double-digit mark in the same game. It is also the first double-digit performance this season from both Duncan and Thompson.
2 | Regis played its season-opener on Friday night against St. Mary's and lost 76-75. The Rangers hit 12 three-pointers on 37.5 percent shooting and Jalen Brown led the team with 15 points.
3 | Miller Jr. surpassed the 20-point mark in a game for the first time in a Chaparral uniform against Colorado School of Mines. The Fort Lewis transfer last scored more than 20 actually against Lubbock Christian in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season. He had 11 games with at least 20 points for the Skyhawks last year despite coming off of the bench in 26 of 33 contests. Miller Jr. has led the Chaps in scoring in two of the three games this season and is averaging 17.7 points per game.
4 | LCU shot 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from behind the arc in the win over the Orediggers, led by four three-pointers from Duncan. They are now shooting 40.6 percent on three-pointers this season, which is second-best in the LSC, behind only Angelo State, which played its first game of the season on Friday and was 11-for-23 in a loss to New Mexico Highlands.
5 | The Chaps out-rebounded the Orediggers 33-32 on Friday and has won the battle on the boards in all three games so far this year. Miller Jr. led the way with nine rebounds and Duncan chipped in six. Sean Murphy is leading the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING THE RANGERS
  • Regis was picked to finish third in the 2024-25 RMAC Preseason Poll with 160 total points and one first place vote
  • Chase Mayo Harmon is the top returner for the Rangers after averaging 16.0 points per game a season ago an earning First Team All-RMAC honors. He had a tough shooting night on Friday, going 3-for-13 from the field
  • Head coach Brady Bergeson is in 10th season at the helm of the Rangers and is 146-107 all time
  • Regis has five NCAA Tournament appearances all-time, with their last coming in the 2017-18 season when they won the RMAC Tournament
  •  The Rangers shared the ball well despite the loss on Friday night, tallying assists on 18 of their 22 baskets. Mayo Harmon led the way with seven assists

THE SERIES WITH THE RANGERS
Lubbock Christian and Regis have met often on the hardwood ever since the former joined the NCAA. The Chaps lead the all-time series 5-3 and have won each of the last three contests. The last Ranger win was to kick off the 2019-20 season, when Regis earned a 64-60 victory in a neutral site game at Colorado School of Mines.
