DENTON, Texas (December 6, 2024) – No.2 (D2CSC) Lubbock Christian University held No.2 (WBCA) Texas Woman's to just 31.5 percent shooting from the field, but 29 turnovers and a lopsided 24-15 disadvantage in fouls led to the Lady Chaps falling 58-40 to the Pioneers for their first overall and Lone Star Conference loss of the season.
Audrey Robertson led the Lady Chaps (9-1, 3-1) with 10 points, marking the first time this season
Grace Foster did not lead the squad in scoring. Foster finished with seven points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Kennedy Chappell also added seven points and five rebounds.
Lubbock Christian did a great job disrupting Texas Woman's shots in the contest, coming away with nine blocks.
Reese Schumann led the way individually for the Lady Chaps with three rejections.
TWU (9-1, 2-1) was led by Averee Kleinhans (15 points) and Leila Patel (13 points). The two combined for a 5-of-9 shooting performance from the perimeter (Patel was 3-of-6 from outside). The Pioneers had 18 of their points from the free-throw line (more than LCU had free-throw attempts: 15).
How It Happened
Early in the opening quarter, Lubbock Christian went on a 5-0 run, culminating with a bucket from Foster, to take a 5-2 lead. TWU responded with a 4-0 and 5-0 run to take a 17-10 lead heading into the second quarter. All 10 of LCU's points was evenly split between Foster and Robertson (each had five points).
The Lady Chaps continued to lose ground in the second quarter, as TWU's 5-0 run from the first quarter turned into a 7-0 run. A 5-0 TWU run with under four minutes remaining in the half put TWU up 24-14 before eventually hitting the horn with a 27-19 halftime lead. Foster and Robertson each had seven points in the first half.
The game slipped away in the third quarter. LCU went without a field goal in the quarter and had a free-throw 1:27 into the quarter and with six seconds left in the frame. The scoreless span of 8:27 was filled with a 12-0 TWU run. LCU had eight turnovers in the frame and was 0-of-7 from the field.
LCU was 6-of-9 from the field in the fourth quarter, as Chappel was 3-of-3 from the field with seven points in the period. She led LCU in scoring in the half with her seven points.

The Lady Chaps entered the game fourth nationally with 11.7 per game. Eleven of their 29 turnovers Friday came from the combo of six offensive fouls and five travel calls).
» The high amount of turnovers contributed to TWU having a 54-34 advantage in field goal attempts.
» The Lady Chaps were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, recording nine blocks as a team, which is LCU's highest single-game total since producing nine blocks on Jan. 13, 2022 at Texas A&M-Commerce (LCU lost in that contest as well).
» Lubbock Christian was whistled for 24 fouls, while TWU was whistled 15 times. The nine-foul discrepancy is the biggest disadvantage against the Lady Chaps since a 25-12 disadvantage on Nov. 25, 2021 in Honolulu, Hawai'i against Minnesota Crookston.
» The Lady Chaps, playing a second consecutive game against a nationally ranked team inside the top-5, moved to 1-1 on the season against nationally ranked opponents.
» The loss places LCU with a 1-1 road record on the season.
» The loss cuts LCU's record to 7-5 all-time against TWU, and they now drop to 2-3 all-time in Denton against the Pioneers. TWU has now won two consecutive meetings over LCU and four of the last five.
