Chaps Drop Series Finale to UTPB, 14-10 in Extra Innings

LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Jarred Gibson and senior Carson Ogilvie each racked up four hits, but the Lubbock Christian University Baseball team fell to UT Permian Basin 14-10 on Saturday.

Andrew Duran got the start on the mound for LCU, going five innings. Duran allowed eight runs (six earned) and struck out one. Junior Murphy Bostick came out of the pen and was handed his first loss of the season. Bostick threw four innings allowing four earned. 

In addition to his four hits, Ogilvie had a triple and an RBI to lead the Chaps. Gibson added an RBI to his four-hit performance as well. Junior Brevin McCool also helped out for LCU, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double, a home run and six RBI. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Chaparrals were trailing 6-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. LCU's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a three-run double off the bat of McCool.

The Chaps kept the deficit at 6-5 before taking the lead in the second. The LCU offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of McCool, which brought the score to 10-6 in favor of the Chaps. The Chaps were unable to hold the lead, as UTPB scored eight times over the remaining eight innings to grab the 14-10 win.

GAME NOTES
» Five Lubbock Christian hitters had multiple base knocks in the ballgame.
» LCU batters had a total of 16 hits in the game.
» The Chaps left 10 runners stranded on base in the loss.
» The Chaparrals out-hit the Falcons at a 16-12 clip.
» LCU pitchers faced 53 UTPB hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and 14 fly balls while striking out five.
» UTPB was led offensively by sophomore Mason Hamlin, who went 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI.
» Junior Jaden Wilcox led the Falcons pitching staff, throwing 4.1 innings of two-run ball.

The Chaps travel to East Texas to take on UT Tyler in a four game series next weekend (Feb. 16-18).
