TYLER, Texas --The Lubbock Christian University Baseball team took a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on falling 5-4 to UT Tyler Friday night.
Junior Cadon Everett (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Lubbock Christian (5-4, 5-4). Senior Aydan Alger started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking three and striking out five.
Senior Chris Shull led the way offensively for the Chaparrals, going 1-for-5 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI. Senior Jarred Gibson put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Senior Ryan Ball also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for LCU with a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. LCU scored twice, with one run coming across on junior Rhett Clark's single.
The Chaps then held the Patriots scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Lubbock Christian picked up two runs, including one on a solo round-tripper off the bat of Shull, which brought the Chaps lead to 4-0. The Chaps were unable to hold the lead, as UT Tyler scored five times over the remaining six innings to grab the 5-4 win.
GAME NOTES
- LCU pitchers limited UT Tyler to just 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
- Chap pitchers faced 48 Patriot hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out nine.
- UT Tyler was led offensively by senior Austin Ochoa, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
- Sophomore Bryson Adair led the Patriots pitching staff, throwing three shutout innings.
- The Chaps have dropped four games in a row.
