Chaps Split Double Header with UT Tyler Saturday

GAME 1 | UT Tyler 3, Lubbock Christian 2
TYLER, Texas  -Shea Bowen strung together three hits, but the Lubbock Christian University baseball team fell to the UT Tyler Patriots 3-2 Saturday.

Chris Rhoades (1-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Lubbock Christian (5-4, 5-4). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.

In addition to his three hits, Bowen had a home run and two RBI to lead the Chaparrals. Chris Shull put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Chaparrals put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Lubbock Christian plated two runs when Bowen left the yard with Shull aboard. The Chaparrals were unable to hold the lead, as UT Tyler scored three times over the remaining five innings to grab the 3-2 win.

GAME 2 | Lubbock Christian 3, UT Tyler 1
Ryan Markwardt put together a quality performance on the mound on Saturday, helping the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals pick up the 3-1 win against the Texas-Tyler Patriots.

The quality outing from Markwardt (2-0) earned him the victory on the mound for Lubbock Christian (6-5, 6-5). The left-hander went six innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out seven. Coleson Abel also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out three.

Chris Shull led the way offensively for the Chaparrals, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple and an RBI. Jacob Gutierrez provided a standout performance as well, going 1-for-4 with a double. Jaxson Edwards also helped out, going 2-for-3 for Lubbock Christian.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Chaparrals were trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. The score remained 3-1 for the rest of the game, as the Chaparrals held on for the win.
