TYLER, Texas - Shea Bowen collected four hits to help power the Lubbock Christian University Baseball team past tUT Tyler 5-4 on Sunday.
Andrew Duran (2-0) got the win for Lubbock Christian (6-5, 6-5). The right-hander went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out three. Cadon Everett also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking two and striking out two.
In addition to his four hits, Bowen had a home run and two RBI to lead the Chaps. Hayden Blair put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Jarred Gibson also chipped in for LCU, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaps got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Bowen put Lubbock Christian on the board with a one-out solo home run off R. Hector.
The LCU defense then held the Patriots scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Chaps.
LCU held UT Tyler without a run before building their lead to 5-0 the following inning. UTT put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but LCU still held on for the 5-4 win.
GAME NOTES
- Every Lubbock Christian starter reached base safely in the win.
- LCU's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed three runs across.
- The Chaparrals out-hit the Patriots at a 9-7 clip.
- Lubbock Christian pitchers limited UTT to just 1-for-13 (.077) with runners in scoring position.
- Liam Scott picked up the save for LCU.
