Chaps Host Western New Mexico Thursday Night

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University Men's Basketball team returns to action Thursday night as they host Western New Mexico. The Chaps looks to sweep the season series against the Mustangs.

The Series
Thursday will be the 12th matchup all-time between LCU and WNMU. The Chaps have controlled the series going 7-4. LCU beat the Mustangs 71-61 on the road earlier this season (Jan. 20). The Chaps are 4-1 against WNMU inside the Rip Griffin Center.

 About Western New Mexico
  • The Mustangs are in their 1st season with Head Coach Mark Bunker at the helm.
  • WNMU comes into Thursday with a 3-18 overall record and are 1-15 in LSC play. Their lone conference win came against UT Tyler on Dec. 9.
  • The Mustangs are 0-10 in LSC West Division contests.
  • Cortaviaus Seales is leading the way for WNMU, averaging 16.7 points and 2.7 rebounds a night.
  • The Mustangs score 73.6 points per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the field and 32.3 percent from behind the arc.
Last Time Out – LCU
Ethan Duncan hit a 3-pointer with just seven seconds left on the clock to put the Chaps up for good in a 60-58 victory over UT Permian Basin on the road Saturday (Feb. 10).

The Chaps had three players score in double figures, led by Tiras Morton, who had 25 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Duncan tacked on 13 points and seven rebounds and Ty Caswell helped out with 10 points and eight rebounds.

LCU's defense held UTPB to only 36.4 percent shooting from the field. The Falcons did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with seven offensive rebounds and managed 13 second chance points while LCU cleared 23 defensive rebounds.

Last Time Out – WNMU
The battle of the Mustangs collided again this season as WNMU took on Midwestern State in Wichita, TX Saturday (Feb. 10). WNMU would take a second loss to Midwestern this season 70-86.
 
Four WNMU players scored in double figures before the sound of the final buzzer. Combining for 44 points, Tanner Vogel (12), Cortaviaus Seales (11), Jordan Williams (11), and Nik Atanasovs (10) each found ways to drive to the hole.

Seales played well all around as he finished with 3 steals, 4 assists, and 2 defensive boards.

WNMU cleaned the glass 44 times this game with leading rebounder, Vogel, who had 11 of his own which earned him a Double-double. This was his first of the season He also picked up a block in the second half of the game.

A Win Would
  • Give the Chaps a 19-6 overall record and 14-3 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Bring LCU's West Division record to 9-2.
  • Be the 240th win of the Coach Duncan era.
