SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 16, 2023) – Lubbock Christian University opened their spring portion of their 2023-2024 women's tennis schedule Friday with a 5-2 neutral site duals victory over Central Oklahoma at ASU Tennis Complex.
Highlighting the victory was the doubles win by LCU's
Andrea De Bernardo and
Michelle Trochez, who upset No.6 nationally doubles ranked team of Pete Komada / Blythe Buntrock (top ranked doubles team in the Central Region) 6-4. LCU claimed the doubles point, as LCU's No.23 nationally ranked team of
Axelle Jacquemin /
Anastasiia Opolska had an 8-6 tiebreaker to win their doubles match 7-6.
Opolska used that momentum in her No.5-singles match, as she was the first to finish and claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Mariia Koroleva won her No.6-singles match to help LCU claim a 3-0 lead and put them a point away from clinching the dual.
Maya Adler won the clinching singles match, putting LCU up 4-1 with a win in No.4-singles. The top two singles matches did complete their play, following Adler's clinch, as Andrea De Barnardo picked up a win over Komada, who is ranked No.7 in the Central Region in singles.
Opolska, 5-0 in dual singles matches this season, improved to 11-3 this season in singles play. She leads the team in wins (11) and is one win ahead of Adler (10-2) and De Bernardo (10-4). On the doubles side, Jacquemin / Opolska improved to 12-2 this season with their fourth consecutive doubles win.
