LUBBOCK, Texas - Five Chaparrals scored in double figures, but the Lubbock Christian University Men's Basketball team fell to Eastern New Mexico 88-84 at home Saturday.
The Chaps (19-7, 14-4) were led by Najeeb Muhammad, who had 21 points. Ethan Duncan added 17 points, six assists and two steals and Kurt Wegscheider helped out with 14 points off the bench.
Lubbock Christian did a great job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 12 assists while turning the ball over six times. Duncan's six assists led the distribution list for the Chaparrals.
How It Happened
The Chaps struggled out of the gate, falling behind 47-35 heading into halftime. LCU went 13-of-32 from the field in the period.
Eastern New Mexico kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 73-59 advantage before LCU went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Fletcher MacDonald's layup, to shrink the deficit to 73-67 with 5:40 to go in the contest. The Chaps kept their comeback going, cutting the lead to one with 29 seconds to go. Eastern New Mexico managed to hold on for the 88-84 win. LCU got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 16 of its 49 total points.
Game Notes
- Lubbock Christian got seven rebounds from both Fletcher MacDonald and Tiras Morton.
- The Chaps were outrebounded 40 to 33.
- LCU struggled from the three point line going 6-of-22 (27.3 percent) in the contest.
- Mario Whitley led ENMU with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
- The Chaps scored 34 points in the paint, while ENMU scored 42 in the lane.
- The loss snapped LCU's five game win streak.
