Shooting Success on Senior Day, as Lady Chaps Cruise Past ENMU

LCU Shoots 50% From The Field and 54.5% From Three-Point Range in Victory

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 17, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University shot 54.5% percent from three-point range and received 24 points from Grace Foster on the way to a 66-45 victory against Eastern New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference West Division contest and Senior Day inside Rip Griffin Center.
 
Foster led the Lady Chaps (18-7, 13-5) with 24 points and six rebounds. Audrey Robertson also tacked on three points, five assists and four steals and Maci Maddox helped out with seven points and five assists.
 
Lubbock Christian utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 17 assists on 26 made field goals. Maddox and Robertson's five assists co-led the distribution list for the Lady Chaps.
 
Lubbock Christian forced 21 Eastern New Mexico turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Saturday's game. The Lady Chaps turned those takeaways into a 22-10 scoring advantage in points-off-turnovers. Robertson's four steals led the way for Lubbock Christian.
 
ENMU (8-16, 4-14)  received 11 points each from Deja Adrian and Ashley Shipley. The Greyhounds were held to a 34.1% (15/44) shooting performance from the field.
 
How it Happened
 
After playing to a 2-2 tie early in the game, Lubbock Christian went on a 5-0 run a minute into the contest left, culminating with a bucket from Kennedy Chappell for a 7-2 lead. Behind six points from Foster, LCU took a 15-7 lead into the second quarter.
 
Lubbock Christian kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 7:19 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Deja Johnson, to increase its lead to 22-8. The Greyhounds cut into that lead, but the Lady Chaps still enjoyed a 30-18 advantage heading into halftime. Foster led LCU at the break with 11 points.
 
The Lady Chaps continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Foster, to expand its lead further to 41-26 with 4:48 to go in the third. LCU was 7-of-12 from the field in the frame and outscored ENMU 20-15 in the quarter to lead 50-33 after three quarters.  Foster posted 11 of her game-high 24 points in the third quarter.
 
Lubbock Christian started tacking on points in the fourth quarter almost immediately, going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Taylor Thomas' jumper, to grow the lead to 58-33 with 6:40 to go in the contest. Seven different Lady Chaps figured into the fourth quarter scoring, with Audrey Spurgin leading the Lady Chaps with four points. LCU garnered 12 of its 16 points in the paint in the frame.
 
Game Notes
 
» The Lady Chaps made over half of their attempts from three point range, knocking down 6-of-11 shots. Foster was 4-of-6 to lead the way from outside. LCU is 13-of-22 (59%) in their last two games from three-point range.

» The Lady Chaps held the Greyhounds to only 34.1 percent shooting from the field.

» LCU never trailed in the contest.

» The Lubbock Christian bench made an impact by adding 23 points to its scoring output (23-9 scoring advantage in the category). Audrey Spurgin led the bench with six points.

» The Lubbock Christian defense forced 21 turnovers. It marked the fifth time this season LCU has forced their opponent into at least 20 turnovers.

» Grace Foster led the Lady Chaps with a game-high 24 points. Foster, who suffered an injury against Texas Woman's on Jan. 27, had her first game of double-figure scoring since Jan. 20.

» Lubbock Christian received a team-leading six rebounds each from both Kennedy Chappell and Grace Foster.

» Audrey Robertson led LCU with a career-matching four steals.
 
» LCU improved their home record to 10-4 on the season, as the win marked their fourth consecutive home win.
 
» The Lady Chaps have now won 18 of the last 21 meetings and trail the all-time series 24-22 to the Greyhounds. They are 8-3 all-time against ENMU in Lubbock.
 
What's Next
The Lady Chaps step out of West Division play and hit the road for Lone Star Conference tilts at St. Edward's (Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Austin, Texas) and St. Mary's (Saturday at 1 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas).
