LUBBOCK, Texas (February 18, 2024) – The Lubbock Christian University men's tennis program claimed a 6-1 duals win in their home opener over Weatherford College Sunday at Penny Gullo Tennis Center, which also opened the spring portion of their 2023-24 schedule.
The Chaps opened the dual claiming the doubles point. There was little drama obtaining the point, as LCU won two of the three doubles matches, with the first two completed doubles matches resulting in LCU wins. Teams of
Kelly Giese /
Braden Tipton (No.1 doubles) and
Mattia Ghedin /
Blas Ruiz Romero (No.3 doubles) each claimed 6-1 match wins to clinch the doubles point.
Tristen Vigneron (No.3 singles) and
Herman Aguirre (No.4 singles) opened singles play with match wins for a 3-0 LCU lead. Giese (No.2 singles) needed a rally and three-set win to give LCU a 4-1 lead and it clinched the dual. Tipton (No.6 singles) and
Pablo Segura (No.5 singles) closed out the dual with singles wins for LCU.
The doubles team of Giese / Tipton was making their season debut. Ghedin / Romero improved to 4-2 on the season and they were making their duals debut (as a team). In singles, Segura's win was his 10
th of the season (10-3), placing him one win back of team leader
Martins Abamu (11). Aguirre and Giese improved to 4-0 in duals to co-lead the team (in singles duals).
