Chaps Travel to State Capital for Matchup With St. Edward's

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University Men's basketball team travels to Austin to battle with St. Edward's on Thursday night.

The Series
Thursday will be the 20th matchup all-time between LCU and SEU. The Chaps have dominated the series going 14-5. LCU has won the previous four matchups, including a 71-59 win in last season's Lone Star Conference Tournament. The Chaps have a 3-4 road record against the Hilltoppers.

 About St. Edward's
  • The Hilltoppers are in their 15th season with Head Coach Andre Cook at the helm.
  • SEU comes into Thursday with a 18-9 overall record and are 11-7 in LSC play.
  • The Hilltoppers sit in second place in the LSC East Division.
  • SEU is led by Sean Elkinton who averages 17.7 points and 8.0 rebounds a night.
  • The Hilltoppers score 77.7 points per game while shooting 43.3 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from behind the arc.
Last Time Out – LCU
Five Chaparrals scored in double figures, but LCU fell to Eastern New Mexico 88-84 at home Saturday (Feb. 17).

The Chaps were led by Najeeb Muhammad, who had 21 points. Ethan Duncan added 17 points, six assists and two steals and Kurt Wegscheider helped out with 14 points off the bench.

Lubbock Christian did a great job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 12 assists while turning the ball over six times. Duncan's six assists led the distribution list for the Chaparrals.

Last Time Out – SEU
Gavino Ramos scored a career-high 27 points, and Sean Elkinton hit a game-winning 3-pointer with nine seconds remaining to lift the St. Edward's men's basketball team to a 71-70 win over Oklahoma Christian. 
 
Ramos scored 16 points in the second half, hitting half of his eight shots from the field and all eight free throws. It's the fifth time Ramos has scored 20 or more points this season and sixth consecutive game in double figures. He also finished with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. 
 
Elkinton finished with 15 points and four rebounds, Johnston added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Blake Nielsen contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Staten and Baynham scored 15 each for Oklahoma Christian.

A Win Would
  • Give the Chaps a 20-7 overall record and 15-4 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Move LCU's road record to 7-2.
  • Be the 241st win of the Coach Duncan era.
