LUBBOCK, Texas (February 21, 2024) –
Teoni Lamb pitched her second consecutive complete game shutout in the opening game of Lubbock Christian University's Lone Star Conference doubleheader against Midwestern State, which resulted in a 3-0 victory, and
Hope Banales followed with a five-RBI performance in a 9-1 win in the second game to help the Lady Chaparrals complete the three-game series sweep Wednesday afternoon at a windy Maner Park.
GAME 1 | Lubbock Christian 3, Midwestern State 0
Lamb (2-1) went the distance for Lubbock Christian (4-5, 3-2), giving up three hits, walking two and striking out seven (season-high in strikeouts). All three hits allowed were singles.
Skylar Herrera led the way offensively for the Lady Chaparrals, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and an RBI.
Hope Banales compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4. Sophomore
Riley Flores also contributed, going 2-for-3 for Lubbock Christian with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was scoreless until LCU was able to get on the scoreboard in the third innings. Lubbock Christian got an RBI single from Flores, scoring Banales from second base for the only run they needed. LCU then tacked on runs in the fourth and fifth innings, with Herrera connecting with a solo blast in the fourth inning and
Bailey Hughes getting an RBI on an infield single with two outs.
GAME NOTES
» Lamb tossed a three-hit shutout for the Lady Chaps. It was her second consecutive shutout and she has not allowed a run in 14.2 innings. She did allow her first two walks of the season Wednesday, with the first ending a sequence of 17.1 innings without allowing a walk to start the season.
» Banales picked up three hits in the game for Lubbock Christian. Banales and
Riley Flores (two hits) had LCU's only multi-hit performances.
» Lamb struck out a season-high seven Mustangs hitters.
» The Chaparrals out-hit the Mustangs at a 9-3 clip.
» Lamb limited Midwestern State to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» The Chaparrals drew five walks from Midwestern State pitching. Kennedy Cameron (0-3) was saddled with the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) off six hits in 3.2 innings.
» Herrera's home run was her first of the season and 34
th of her LCU career.
» Midwestern State was led offensively by junior Myranda Jimenez, who went 2-for-3.
GAME 2 | Lubbock Christian 9, Midwestern State 1
Sophomore
Ashlinn Hamilton (1-1) got the win for Lubbock Christian (5-5, 4-2). The right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits. Freshman
Reese Farrar also pitched well, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one en route for the save.
Banales went 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run in addition to her five RBI for the Lady Chaps.
Kamryn Gibbs put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
Tiarra Delrosario also helped out for Lubbock Christian, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with a pair of runs in the first innings. Banales plated Flores with a fielder's choice and Herrera scored on a passed ball.
The Mustangs failed to push any runs across before the Lady Chaps built onto their lead in the fourth inning. Lubbock Christian scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run inside-the-park homer off the bat of Banales, scoring
Riley Flores and Herrera, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Chaparrals. Banales' hit came on a bloop to left field that took a bad-angle spin-filled hop on the artificial turf and rolled into the left field corner.
A pair of free passes and an error loaded the bases for MSU in the fifth inning, which led to
Reese Farrar entering the circle for a save situation. A wild pitch led to MSU scoring their first run in the inning.
The Lady Chaps led 5-1 heading into the sixth inning. Their bats heated up in the inning, which got underway with a solo leadoff home run by
Kamryn Gibbs. She was the first of five consecutive batters to reach base safely. Banales and
Baylea Myers each collected an RBI before the run-rule was activated on a throwing error on an attempted double play that scored Herrera.

» Banales drove in five runs for Lubbock Christian. The mark is a season-high for a Lady Chaps member this season. Banales' career high is six from Apr. 27, 2023 at UT Permian Basin.
» The win was LCU's first run-rule win of the season.
» The Chaparrals out-hit the Mustangs at a 9-4 clip.
» Lubbock Christian went 3-for-9 (.333) with runners in scoring position.

» Kam Gibbs' home run marked her first of the season and was her 14
th of her career. Banales' inside-the-park dinger was her first home run of the season and 10

Riley Flores hit .625 in the series, with a 5-for-8 series performance at the plate. Her on-base percentage was .700.
» Banales hit .585 in the series with seven hits in 12 at-bats. She had five RBI in the series and 11 total bases, as she had a double and home run for her two extr-base hits in the series. She was 1-for-2 with the bases loaded for LCU's only hit this season with the bases loaded. She was 4-for-4 with the bases empty as well.
» LCU produced 11 two-RBI in the series, as the squad hit .414 (12/29) in two-out at-bats.
»As a team, LCU hit .350 and held MSU to a .167 batting average.
» Tiarra Delrossario was able to extend her hit streak to nine games, which actively leads the Lady Chaps. She also joined Banales in extending their active streaks to reaching base safely to 10 games.
» Banales compiled four hits on the day for Lubbock Christian. The four hits are a career-high for Banales and the highest hit total by a Lady Chaps member since Savannah Wysocki had five hits on May 12, 2022.
