LUBBOCK, Texas - Tiras Morton secured a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds to help the Lubbock Christian University Men's Basketball team knock off the Cameron Aggies 89-64 at home Saturday.
The Chaparrals (16-6, 11-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Morton. Najeeb Muhammad tacked on 19 points and Kurt Wegscheider helped out with 14 points off the bench.
LCU took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 35 made field goals. Individually, Ty Caswell and Aaron Gonzales were on top of the distribution list for the Chaps with three assists each.
The LCU defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 13 Cameron turnovers while committing nine. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor.
How It Happened
After falling behind 14-12, LCU went on an 8-0 run with 13:56 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Muhammad, to take a 20-14 lead. The Chaparrals then added seven points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 49-36 advantage.
Following intermission, Lubbock Christian kept widening that lead, expanding it to 71-54 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Muhammad's jumper, to grow the lead to 78-54 with 5:52 to go in the contest. The Chaps kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 89-64 win. LCU took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 40 points in the lane.
