Chaps Hit the Road to Clash with Angelo State Thursday Night

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University Men's Basketball team looks to sweep the season series with Angelo State as they battle inside Junell Center Thursday night.

The Series
Thursday will be the 35th matchup all-time between the Chaps and Rams. The Rams have controlled the series going 24-10. ASU traveled to Lubbock earlier this season (Jan. 13) and fell to the Chaps 93-89. Ethan Duncan lead the way for the Chaps in the win, scoring a career-high 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting and seven made three's. LCU is 3-3 all-time inside Junell Center.

About Angelo State
  • The Rams are in their 2nd season with Head Coach Vinay Patel at the helm.
  • ASU comes into Thursday with a 15-6 record and are 10-5 in LSC play.
  • The Rams are 4-5 in LSC West Division contests.
  • Keyshawn Embery-Simpson is leading the way for ASU averaging 19.9 points and three rebounds a night.
  • The Rams score 81.7 points per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from behind the arc.
  • Angelo State is 8-0 at home this season and have a 22-game home win streak. 
Last Time Out – LCU
 Tiras Morton secured a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds to help the Lubbock Christian University Men's Basketball team knock off the Cameron Aggies 89-64 at home Saturday.
The Chaparrals (16-6, 11-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Morton. Najeeb Muhammad tacked on 19 points and Kurt Wegscheider helped out with 14 points off the bench.
LCU took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 35 made field goals. Individually, Ty Caswell and Aaron Gonzales were on top of the distribution list for the Chaps with three assists each. 
The LCU defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 13 Cameron turnovers while committing nine. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor. 

Last Time Out – ASU
The Angelo State men's basketball team claimed their first road win in the 2024 calendar year, needing an extra five minutes to do so as the Rams defeated Western New Mexico 98-91 in overtime on Saturday afternoon on Drag's Court.

The Rams were down two points in the last minute of regulation, with a Shemar Smith bucket tying the game with 26 seconds to force overtime. In overtime, the Rams outscored the hosts 14-7, including going 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

The Rams shot 43.7 percent from the field, 44 percent from three, and 80.6 percent from the free throw line; they only committed nine turnovers and assisted on 17 of their 31 made field goals.

A Win Would
  • Give the Chaps a 17-6 overall record and 11-3 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Bring LCU's West Division record to 7-2.
  • Be the 238th win of the Coach Duncan era.
