Rivalry on the Range Heads North as Chaps Travel to Canyon for Rematch with West Texas A&M

LUBBOCK, Texas – After falling 96-91 to West Texas A&M at home Thursday night the Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team seeks revenge as they rematch the Buffs on Saturday afternoon.

The Series – Rivalry on the Range
Saturday will be the 24th matchup all-time between LCU and WTAMU. The Buffaloes hold a slight advantage in the rivalry, holding a 15-8 record over the Chaps. WTAMU beat LCU three times last season, sweeping the regular season series and defeating the Chaps in the second round of the LSC tournament. The Chaps are 4-8 on the road against WTAMU.

LCU Versus Nationally Ranked Opponents
Since transitioning to NCAA Division II in 2014-15 LCU is 14-25 against nationally ranked opponents. The Chaps have faced five ranked teams this season, going 2-3 in those games. LCU has faced a ranked WTAMU team 12 times in its history and have won four of the contests.
 
About West Texas A&M
  • The Buffaloes are in their 10th season with Head Coach Tom Brown at the helm.
  • WTAMU comes into Saturday with a 26-2 record and are ranked fourth in the latest NABC National Poll.
  • The Buffs are 20-1 in LSC play and have already clinched the Lone Star regular season title.
  • WTAMU is lead by Larry Wise who averages 20.4 points and 5.4 rebounds a night. Wise scored a career-high 39 points in Thursday's win over LCU.
  • The Buffs score 86.2 points per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from behind the arc.
Last Time Out – LCU
LCU dropped its final home game of the season, losing a back-and-fourth contest to West Texas A&M 96-91 Thursday night. 
The Chaparrals had four players score in double figures, led by Tiras Morton, who had a career-high 35 points and six rebounds. Ethan Duncan added 18 points and three steals and Najeeb Muhammad helped out with 15 points.

Both team's offenses were firing on all cylinders in a game that saw 13 lead changes and 12 tied scores. The Chaps shot an efficient 36-of-66 (54.5 percent) from the field in the loss.

Last Time Out – WTAMU
A career-high 39 points from Larry Wise powered No. 4-ranked West Texas A&M men's basketball team past Lubbock Christian, 96-91. The Buffs moved their record to 26-2 overall and 20-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

Wise's scoring total moved the Waxahachie, Texas native into sixth on the all-time scoring list with 1,578 points. In addition to being a career-high, Wise becomes the seventh player in WT history to score 39 or more points and ties Simmie Hill for the seventh-highest single-game scoring total.

Three Buffs reached double-digit scoring on Thursday night highlighted by a game-high 39 from Larry Wise. Ryland Holt (20) and Kieran Elliott (19) also ended their night in double figures. Holt and Ahamed Mohammed pulled in eight rebounds each while Zach Toussaint dished out three assists.  

A Win Would
  • Give the Chaps a 21-9 overall record and 16-6 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Be the third win against a ranked opponent this season for LCU.
  • Be the 242nd win of the Coach Duncan era.
