LUBBOCK, Texas - The 22nd ranked Lubbock Christian University baseball team's comeback attempt fell short as they fell 11-6 to Regis Friday afternoon.
In the batter's box, the Chaparrals were led by senior Nate Van Maanen, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, a walk and three RBI. Junior Shea Bowen furnished a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Senior Ryan Ball also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and two walks.
Aydan Alger started on the mound for LCU going 2.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned), and striking out two. He suffers his first loss of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals were trailing 10-0 in the seventh inning when they first put runs on the board. Junior Brevin McCool came across to score the lone run of the inning for LCU and get them on the board.
The Rangers expanded their lead to 11-1 before the Chap offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the ninth. The LCU offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Maanen, which tightened the Rangers lead to 11-6. The Chaparrals were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
