LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior Ryan Markwardt was dominant on Saturday, fanning eight Regis hitters over four innings of work to help power the No. 22 Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals past the Rangers 11-6.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Markwardt (4-1) went four innings, giving up one run on six hits and walking two for LCU (18-8). Sophomore Coleson Abel also made an impact on the mound for the Chaps, throwing three shutout innings while allowing one hit, with one walk and seven strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Chaparrals were led by senior Carson Ogilvie, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a triple, a home run and four RBI. Senior Hayden Blair put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Junior Rhett Clark also helped out for Lubbock Christian, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After going down 5-1 in the first inning the Chaps responded well, adding three runs in the second to cut the deficit to one run.
The Chaps took the lead in the third inning when Hayden Blair drove in Brevin McCool.
Regis tied the game in the fourth, but the Chaps took it right back when Ogilivie hit an RBI single in the fifth inning.
The Chaps added four more runs to coast to the 11-6 victory.
