Lubbock Christian shut out 6-0 by Angelo State in Series Opener

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Five pitchers combined to throw a shutout on Friday as the No. 11 Angelo State Rams blanked the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals 6-0.

Senior Ayden Alger (3-2) started and took the loss on the mound for LCU (18-9, 17-8). The southpaw went six innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.

Offensively, the Chaparrals were paced by senior Ryan Ball, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and a walk. Senior Jarred Gibson compiled a standout performance as well, going 1-for-4 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rams lead 3-0 before blowing the game open, scoring three runs in the eighth inning to take a six run lead. 
LCU managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The Chaps last got a runner on third in the fourth, when sophomore Jacob Gutierrez made it 90 feet away from scoring with two outs.

GAME NOTES

  • LCU pitchers limited Angelo State to just 2-for-14 (.143) with runners in scoring position.
  • Friday is the first time the Chaps have been shutout this season.
  • LCU has dropped nine straight to the Rams, last winning 7-6 on March 5, 2022.
  • Angelo State was led offensively by senior Justin Harris, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
  • Junior Austin Teel led the Rams pitching staff, throwing four shutout innings.
