LUBBOCK, Texas (March 23, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University received a one-hit complete game pitching performance from
Maxine Valdez and a four-hit complete game performance in the circle from
Teoni Lamb, as the two pitching performances helped LCU claim a 4-0 and 14-1 win to sweep a Lone Star Conference doubleheader over Texas A&M International Saturday at Maner Park.
GAME 1 | Lubbock Christian 4, Texas A&M International 0
Maxine Valdez was dealing on Saturday, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the Lady Chaparrals past the Dustdevils 4-0 in the opener.
Valdez (6-5) went the distance for Lubbock Christian, giving up one hit, walking one and striking out seven in the 7.0 innings. At the plate,
Amanda Valdiviezo was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
LCU opened the scoring in the third inning, as Valdiviezo left the yard with
Riley Flores aboard for a 2-0 lead. The Lady Chaps then tacked on runs in the sixth inning when they scored two times. Run-scoring doubles from Flores and Valdiviezo pushed the two runs across.
GAME NOTES
» Valdez tossed a one-hit shutout for the Lady Chaps. It was her 26
th career complete game (sixth of the season) and 12
th career complete game shutout (second of the season). Her seven strikeouts place her with 465 career strikeouts.
» The Lady Chaps power output was led by Valdiviezo, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame. Her home run was her second of the season and seventh of her career.
» LCU out-hit the Dustdevils at a 7-1 clip.
» Valdez faced 23 Texas A&M International hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out seven. She did not allow a hit to the final 20 hitters she faced (6.1 innings), as she allowed a two-out base hit to Kennedy Giego in the first inning.
» Texas A&M International was led offensively by sophomore Kennedy Griego, who went 1-for-3.
» Carla Arellano led the Dustdevils pitching staff, throwing all 6.0 innings and allowing four runs off seven hits. She fell to 1-10 on the season.

GAME 2 | Lubbock Christian 10, Texas A&M International 1
A six-run third inning, fueled by a series of Dustdevils errors, allowed LCU to a 10-1 victory in the second game to complete a doubleheader sweep.
Teoni Lamb (7-2) started in the circle and picked up the win for Lubbock Christian (18-12, 17-9). The right-hander went 5.0 innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out four in the complete game outing.
At the plate, the LCU was paced by
Skylar Herrera, who went 2-for-3 in the game with a home run and three RBI.
Tiarra Delrosario put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Sydnee Bowlin also helped out for Lubbock Christian, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, after an error led to a TAMIU unearned run in top of the first inning, the Lady Chaps were able to answer with Bowlin crossing the plate to score their lone run of the inning to tie the game at 1-1 Lubbock Christian scored three runs in the second inning, as a three-run homer off the bat of Herrera scored Bowlin and Delrosario for a 4-1 lead.
Lubbock Christian kept Texas A&M International scoreless before building their lead to 10-1 the following inning.
Baylea Myers opened the scoring with an RBI-single. Three of the runs came off an error, as a bases-loaded boot off a ball hit by
Hope Banales led to a trio of runs. The six-run inning put LCU up 10-1.

Teoni Lamb pitched her eighth complete game of the season and did not allow an earned run. She has not allowed an earned run in her last four appearances (19.0 innings over the span).
» Lubbock Christian went 4-for-11 (.364) with runners in scoring position. Herrera was 2-for-3 in the scenario.
