LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 18 Lubbock Christian University Baseball team rallied to a 18-17 victory over Texas A&M International at home Saturday. Junior Brevin McCool was the hero for the Chaps, hitting a walk-off single to secure the win and the series for LCU.
Senior Colton Brown (2-0) got the win out of the bullpen for LCU (23-11). The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit, one walk and striking out one. Senior Chris Shull also pitched well, going four innings, surrendering two runs, both earned, on one hit, walking three and striking out five.
At the plate, LCU was led by Carson Ogilvie who went 4-of-5 with three RBIs, five runs scored, and three stolen bases. McCool also collected three RBIs for the Chaps, going 3-of-5 at the dish with a double and the walk-off single.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaps scored in seven different innings on the way to the win. After holding the lead two different times earlier in the ballgame, LCU found themselves down 17-12 headed into the bottom of the eighth. The Chaps strung together five runs in the inning to tie the ball game as Ogilvie, Jarred Gibson, Ryan Ball, and Johnny Gomez III all collected RBIs (Gibson recorded two RBIs in the inning).
Brown held the Dustdevils scoreless in the top of the ninth, striking out the last batter to set the stage for the LCU offense. The Chaps loaded the bases with two outs as McCool came to the plate. McCool connected on a line drive that sailed over the right fielders outstretched arm to score Hayden Blair and secure the series victory for LCU.
