LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lubbock Christian University Baseball team swept a double-header against St. Mary's at home Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1 | Lubbock Christian 15, Saint Mary's (TX) 2
Sophomore Chris Rhoades (4-2) got the win for Lubbock Christian (15-7). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out six. Junior Chris Brown also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
Sophomore Jacob Gutierrez led the way offensively for the Chaps, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple and three RBI. Senior Chris Shull put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Junior Frayner Chavez also chipped in, going 3-for-4 for Lubbock Christian with a triple and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaps got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Lubbock Christian managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Chaps then held the Rattlers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. The Lubbock Christian offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of senior Jarred Gibson, which brought the Chaparrals lead to 6-0.
Lubbock Christian kept Saint Mary's (TX) scoreless before expanding their lead to 13-0 the following inning. The Chaparrals bats heated up in the inning, scoring seven runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Shull and a two-run single from Gutierrez.
The Rattlers gained ground, closing the gap to 13-1 until Lubbock Christian added some insurance in the fourth. The Chaparrals scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Carson Ogilvie, bringing the Lubbock Christian advantage to 14-1.
StMU got within 14-2 until the Chaparrals scored again in the fifth inning to stretch its lead to 15-2. Lubbock Christian pushed across a run on junior Brevin McCool's one-out RBI double. The score remained 15-2 for the rest of the game, as the Chaparrals coasted to the win.

Senior Chris Shull (1-0) got the win for Lubbock Christian (16-7). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. Junior Alec Stanfield also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
In addition to his four hits, Ogilvie had a double, a triple and two RBI to lead the Chaparrals. Sophomore Jacob Gutierrez furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Junior Shea Bowen also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

The Rattlers then tied the ballgame at two before the Chaparrals came back to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. The Lubbock Christian offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Ogilvie, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Chaparrals.
Lubbock Christian kept Saint Mary's (TX) without a run before building their lead to 7-2 in the sixth inning. The score remained 7-2 for the rest of the game, as Lubbock Christian coasted to the win.
