LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lubbock Christian University Baseball team broke through after an 8-8 tie in the sixth inning to defeat St. Maey's 12-10 Sunday. The win gave LCU their ninth win in a row.
Senior Colton Brown (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for LCU (17-7). The right-hander went 1.1 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. Junior Ryan Markwardt also made an impact on the mound for the Chaparrals, throwing two shutout innings while allowing two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
Sophomore Jacob Gutierrez led the way offensively for the Chaparrals, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Junior Brevin McCool put together a standout effort as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and two RBI. Senior Jarred Gibson also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Lubbock Christian with a double, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals scored in six different innings on the way to victory. Lubbock Christian broke an 8-8 tie and took the lead for good at 9-8 in the seventh inning The big hit for the Chaparrals in the inning was a one-run double off the bat of McCool.
