SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 9, 2024) – A three-run first and fourth inning bookended St. Mary's scoring and helped the Rattlers claim the rubber match of their Lone Star Conference series, as St. Mary's defeated Lubbock Christian 6-4 Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's Softball Stadium.
Sophomore Ashlinn Hamilton (1-2) got the ball to start for Lubbock Christian (11-11, 10-8) and took the loss after 3.1 innings of work. Teoni Lamb was a bright spot for the Lady Chaps, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
Tiarra Delrosario led the way offensively for the Lady Chaps, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and a walk. Skylar Herrera provided a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hope Banales also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Lubbock Christian with two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Chaparrals were trailing 3-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Lubbock Christian scored three times, picking up one on an RBI base knock off the bat of Banales.
The Rattlers broke the tie and re-took the lead with a three-run fourth inning, as they took advantage of a throwing error allowing a pair of runs to score. Trailing 6-3 in the seventh inning, Delrosario came across to score, off a sacrifice fly from Banales the lone run of the inning for Lubbock Christian.
GAME NOTES
» With a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, Tiarra Delrosario extended her hit streak to 21 games (leads team) and she leads LCU with nine multi-hit games.
» The Chaparrals out-hit the Rattlers at a 9-7 clip. They ended up out-hitting StMU 23-19 in the series.
» LCU had two more sacrifice flies and has now produced nine sacrifice flies in a six-game span (they had one on the season prior to the six game span). Skylar Herrera added to her season-high totals and has four on the season (17 in her career).
» LCU did not have a home run in the game and are 1-10 this season in games they do not hit a home run.
» Saint Mary's was led offensively by Reba Reyes, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
» Savannah Youngblood (6-1) led the Rattlers pitching staff, throwing 4.2 innings of one-run ball. She allowed five hits and struck out two.
» Lubbock Christian fell to 1-7 this season in games which are decided by two runs or fewer.
» Skylar Herrera went 5-for-11 in the series (.455) with two RBI.
» Lubbock Christian was 10-for-10 in stolen base attempts in the series.
» The loss places the all-time series with StMU leading 23-22, and for LCU, they are now 8-18 against StMU in San Antonio.
