Lady Chaps Win Fifth Sweep Of Season

Anastasiia Khrustaleva Defeats No.11-Nationally Ranked Singles Individual In Singles Play

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 11, 2024) – No.20 Lubbock Christian University completed their fifth 7-0 sweep of the season, as they won all dual matches over Texas Tyler Thursday afternoon in Lone Star Conference play at Penny Gullo Tennis Center.
 
Doubles teams cruised through doubles play. Teams of No.45 Andrea De Bernard / Michelle Trochez (No.1-doubles, 6-3), Oshini Herath / Anastasiia Opolska (No.2-doubles, 6-2) and Axelle Jacquemin / Anastasiia Khrustaleva (No.3-doubles, 6-3) each claimed convincing wins to give LCU a 1-0 lead in the dual.
 
The singles match featured a huge upset in No.1-singles, as Khrustaleva defeated No.11 Muskan Gupta 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2 tiebreaker). She is 2-3 on the season and 2-2 in singles matches against nationally ranked opponents. The match was the only singles match to end in three sets. Trochez (No.2-singles), No.26 De Bernardo (No.3-singles), Jacquemin (No.4-singles), Opolska (No.5-singles) and Mariia Koroleva (No.6-singles) claimed wins for LCU in the 7-0 sweep.
 
Opolska won her 14th consecutive singles match and leads LCU with 25 singles victories (25-4). She is 19-1 in duals, 7-0 in the LSC and 9-1 playing in No.5-singles matches. Koroleva also claimed her 22nd singles win of the season (22-3 overall and 17-1 in duals) and has won 10 consecutive singles matches. The doubles teams of De Bernardo / Trochez won their 17th win of the season, which leads the squad.
 
LCU's win has them 4-3 in LSC play and they are 19-4 overall. They play their final home dual Saturday at 1 p.m., as they host Dallas Baptist for Senior Day. Ceremonies to recognize their seniors begins at 9:15 a.m.  (before the men's 10 a.m. dual) and the first 50 fans in attendance receive Chick-Fil-A sandwiches.
