Patriots Rally Late To Spoil Senior Day

Pair of Third-Set Tiebreakers In Final Matches Propel DBU Over Lady Chaps

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 13, 2024) – Seniors Anastasiia Khrustaleva and Taylor Nichols were recognized for Senior Day, but the celebration was dampened, as Dallas Baptist edged No.20 Lubbock Christian 4-3 in a Lone Star Conference dual Saturday at Penny Gullo Tennis Center.

The doubles point was a huge gain for the Patriots, as they took a 1-0 dual lead winning a pair of doubles matches. Included in their pair of wins was a No.1-doubles victory over No.45 ranked LCU squad of Andrea de Bernardo / Michelle Trochez. LCU's lone win in doubles was by No.2-doubles squad of Oshini Herath / Anastasiia Opolska.

LCU won the first two completed singles matches for a 2-1 lead in the dual, as No.26 De Bernardo won the No.3-singles match and Mariia Koroleva won in No.6-singles, each in straight sets. Axelle Jacquemin won in No.4-singles to put LCU up 3-2, but they were unable to win in No.5-singles and No.1-singles. Both of the final two remaining matches ended in three sets, and each were lost in a third-set tiebreaker.

Koroleva also claimed her 23rd singles win of the season (23-3 overall and 18-1 in duals) and has won 11 consecutive singles matches. De Bernardo's win in singles marked her fifth consecutive win and she is 21-9 this season in singles action.

LCU's loss drops them 4-4 in LSC play and they are 19-5 overall. Friday, they head to Lawton, Okla., where they will face Cameron at 10 a.m. It opens their final week of the regular season, as they will follow the match with a trip to Fort Smith, Ark. Saturday for their regular season finale against Arkansas Fort Smith.
