Sunday Split, as Lamb Opens Doubleheader With Shutout Win

Lady Chaps Move to 3-6 This Season Against Nationally Ranked Opponents

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 14, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University received a complete game four-hit shutout from Teoni Lamb in the opening game of a Sunday doubleheader, as LCU claimed a 4-0 win over No.21 Angelo State, but the Rambelles responded with a 7-4 win in the second game to split the doubleheader and take the rubber game of their Lone Star Conference series at Maner Park.
 
GAME 1 | Lubbock Christian 5, No. 21 Angelo State 0
Teoni Lamb was dealing on Sunday.5-0. Lamb (8-4) went the distance for Lubbock Christian, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out four.
 
At the plate, the Lady Chaparrals were led by senior Kamryn Gibbs, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Baylea Myers furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Hope Banales also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
LCU opened the scoring in the second inning. Lubbock Christian plated two runs when Myers left the yard with Banales aboard. LCU then tacked on runs in the fourth and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth inning when they scored two times. Those two runs came across on Gibbs' two-run homer to right-centerfield.
 
GAME NOTES
» Lamb tossed a four-hit shutout for the Lady Chaps. She recorded her team-leading ninth complete game and fourth complete-game shutout of the season.

» The Lady Chaps claimed their ninth shutout of the season.

» LCU out-hit the Rambelles at a 5-4 clip.

» Lamb limited Angelo State to 1-for-5 (.200) at the plate with runners in scoring position.

» Lamb faced 26 Angelo State hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and 11 fly balls while striking out four.

» Gibbs led the Chaparrals at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. The home run was her sixth of the season and 19th of her LCU career.

» Angelo State was led offensively by sophomore Layni Tanner, who went 2-for-3.
» Junior Cheyenne Floyd went the distance in the circle for the Rambelles (6.0 innings), allowing five runs off five hits and falling to 20-6 on the season.
 
GAME 2 | No. 21 Angelo State 7, Lubbock Christian 4
Four Lubbock Christian players recorded at least two hits, but the Lady Chaps fell to the No. 21 Angelo State Rams 7-4 in the second game of the Sunday doubleheader.
 
Senior Taryn Westbrook (3-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Lubbock Christian (23-17, 22-14). Maxine Valdez entered the game in the second inning and pitched six innings, surrendering one run on six hits (did not issue a walk) and striking out five.
 
Baylea Myers led LCU at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance with an RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
LCU had a disastrous first inning, as the Rambelles had six runs off five hits in the top of the first inning. Included in the mayhem was a three-run play with two outs (all six runs came with two outs), as Carter Smith singled in a run but a throwing error allowed Ashton Dirner and Smith to score.
 
Having to rally from a 7-0 deficit, as ASU added a solo home run (by Tatiana Trotter) in the second inning, Lubbock Christian got an RBI-single from Myers, scoring senior Ally Oyanguren from second base.
 
In the fifth inning, Lubbock Christian grabbed another run on an RBI-single off the bat of Hope Banales, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Rambelled. LCU eventually narrowed the gap to 7-4 in the sixth inning. Tiarra Delrosario singled in a pair with a two-out hit to score Myers and Riley Flores, but they were unable to get any closer.
 
GAME NOTES
» Myers led the Chaparrals, compiling three base hits in the ballgame. It was her second three-hit game of the season, which matches a season-high.

» LCU was homerless in the game. They fall to 4-13 in games in which they do not hit a home run.

» Four Lubbock Christian hitters had multiple base knocks in the ballgame. Myers (3-for-3), Delrosario (2-for-3), Flores (2-for-3) and Oyanguren (2-for-4) each had multi-hit games. Delrosario leads LCU with 15 multi-hit games.

» Lubbock Christian went 4-for-9 (.444) with runners in scoring position.

» Angelo State was led offensively by Tatiana Trotter, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI.
» Amelia Hatthorn led the Rams pitching staff, throwing six innings of two-run ball. She claimed the win to improve to 4-0 on the season.
 
» Myers actively leads LCU with an eight-game hit streak. She led LCU at the plate in the series, going 5-for-10 with a homer and three RBI.
 
HISTORICAL NOTE
ASU advantage in the all-time series moved to 12-6 all-time against LCU and 5-2 all-time at Maner Park. LCU fell to 3-6 this season in games against nationally ranked opponents.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
LCU remains home Friday to open a three-game series against Texas Permian Basin.
