CANYON, Texas - The Lubbock Christian Track & Field program claimed 13 top-3 finishes at West Texas A&M's Buffalo Invitational this Sunday. The meet was highlighted by first place finishes by
Bryce Spencer and
Esperanza Cruz.
Spencer won gold in the men's hammer throw with a final mark of 66.82 meters, one meter shy of tying the LCU school record. Cruz picks up her first gold medal of the season, winning the women's javelin with a throw of 32.12 meters.
For the Lady Chaps, 10 other student-athletes finished within the top-3 of their events.
Skyler Dempsey threw 29.99 meters to finish one spot behind Cruz in the javelin. In high jump,
Alyssa Singletary and
Coulter Reel placed second and third, respectively.
Reanna Argullin ran a time of 58.87 in the 400 meter dash to finish second.
Kiley Cummings finished third in the 400 meter with a time of 59.04. In the 5,000 meter,
Olivia Weider placed third running a time of 18:05.27. The team of
Elizabeth Florez,
Jozlyn Arana,
Anika Beukes, and
Anna Salisbury placed second in the 4X400 meter relay, running a time of 3:45.75.
On the men's side, the Chaps finished top-3 in four other events. Spencer took home his second medal of the weekend, finishing second in the discus with a throw of 47.84 meters.
Trael Robertson finished third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.65.
Jorge Ronquillo ran a time of 57.06 to finish third in the 400 meter hurdles. In the 4X400 meter relay, the team of
Ryan Gordon,
Josh Allen,
Corbin Hughes, and
Kole Carrasco placed third with a time of 3:21.50.
