LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior Brevin McCool put together a brilliant performance at the plate Saturday, hitting for the cycle to help power the No. 4 Lubbock Christian Chaparrals past the UT Permian Basin Falcons 23-5 to advance to the finals of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.
Junior Ryan Markwardt (11-1) started on the mound and picked up the win for LCU (43-14). The left-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing four walks and striking out two. Sophomore Tyler Manyo also made an impact on the mound for the Chaps, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
To go along with McCool's cycle, senior Nate Van Maanen also put together a noteworthy performance at the plate, going 4-for-6 with two doubles and four RBIs. Sophomore Jacob Gutierrez led the Chaps in RBIs with six, going 2-for-7 with a double and triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaps scored in seven different innings on the way to the win. LCU broke a 3-3 tie and took the lead for good at in the fifth inning on McCool's leadoff home run.
GAME NOTES
- Head Coach Nathan Blackwood picked the 800th win of his historic career.
- Saturday is the second time this season McCool has hit for the cycle, with his first coming on March 2 against Oklahoma Christian.
- LCU got four-hit games from four different hitters, as McCool, Ryan Ball, Carson Ogilvie, and Van Maanen all recorded four knocks.

The Chaps and Falcons square off tomorrow afternoon in the finals of the South Central Regional. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with an if necessary game to be played 40 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The winner of the regional tournament will play defending National Champion Angelo State.
