Falcons Ground Lady Chaps: LCU Falls in Straight Sets at LSC Crossover

Kiana Fallaha’s 12 Kills Not Enough as LCU Drops Neutral Site Match to UTPB

LAREDO, Texas (September 20, 2024) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals dropped their opening match of the Lone Star Conference Crossover 3-0 (23-25, 15-25, 12-25) to UT Permian Basin Friday at TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
 
The non-conference loss moved Lubbock Christian to 4-5 on the season. Kiana Fallaha finished with 12 kills on the evening to lead the Lady Chaps attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .290. The Lady Chaps received 10 digs from Olivia Elofsson to lead them defensively.
 
Game Notes
» Leddy Rae Guinn had a career-high and team-high two aces in the loss.

» Kiana Fallaha had a team-high 12 kills for Lubbock Christian, which marked her eighth match of at least 10 kills this season.

» Lubbock Christian got a team-high 10 digs from Olivia Elofsson, marking her fourth match of at least 10 digs this season.

» LCU fell to 4-3 in neutral site matches this season.
 
» The Lady Chaps are now 1-6 historically in matches part of the LSC Crossover.
 
» LCU is now looking to shake a three-match losing streak, which is their longest since October 2022.
 
» Lubbock Christian and UT Permian Basin were meeting in a neutral site contest for the first time since meeting in Stephenville, Texas on Sept. 9, 2016. The win for the Falcons places LCU's all-time record at 42-11 against UTPB.
 
How It Happened
 
SET 1 | The Lady Chaps fought back from an eight-point 20-12 hole, but Texas-Permian Basin held on to win the first set 25-23. Guinn had a pair of aces during a 10-2 LCU run, which also included a trio of kills from Lily Bickley. Fallaha and Bickley each had five kills in the frame, as both teams combined for 33 kills (18 from UTPB, with six from Chyra Thompson).
 
SET 2 | A 25-15 set-two loss put Lubbock Christian behind 2-0 in the match. Lubbock Christian trailed by as many as 10 points as Texas-Permian Basin grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that was knotted up five times before the Falcons took over the lead behind a 9-2 run. Kennedi Wright had as many kills (8) as LCU did as a team in the set.
 
SET 3 | Lubbock Christian couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Lady Chaps dropped a tough set 25-12. UTPB went on a 14-5 scoring surge to pull away. LCU had nine kills in the set, with five tallied by Fallaha.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The LSC Crossover closes Saturday at 1 p.m. in Laredo, with LCU playing a road contest against host Texas A&M International. It is LCU's final match prior to their conference opener.
