Late Mustang Strike Stuns Lady Chaps in LSC Opener

83rd-Minute Goal Lifts Midwestern State Over LCU, Handing Lady Chaps First Home Loss of the Season

LUBBOCK, Texas (September 25, 2024) Nyxalee Munoz's goal with less than seven minutes remaining propelled Midwestern State to a 2-1 win and placing a damper on Lubbock Christian University's Lone Star Conference opener Wednesday evening at LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
 
Lubbock Christian fell to 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play with the defeat. Midwestern State, opening 1-0-0 in LSC play, improves to 5-1-0 on the season.
 
How it Happened
Midwestern St. broke the 0-0 tie when Madison Brinkley scored in the third minute, assisted by Allessandra Romano. The Lady Chaps evened the game on a goal from Avery Jennings, her second goal of the season, in the 13th minute, assisted by Journey Curs and Ella Spiller.
 
Midwestern State went up 2-1 on Nyxalee Munoz's 83rd-minute goal, as she pivoted with a loose ball inside the box and capitalized with the eventual game winning goal.
 
Game Notes

  • Emma Wright collected three saves for the Lady Chaps out of 15 total Mustangs shots (five on goal). She has all six LCU goalkeeping decisions on the season (2-3-1).
  • Lubbock Christian put seven shots on goal, with Allison Dellis improving to 5-1-0 behind a six-save performance.
  • Avery Jennings notched her team-leading second goal of the season. Jennings, who was making her 56th career appearance with the Lady Chaps, netted her fourth career goal.
  • Journey Curs and Ella Spiller co-lead LCU in assists, as they each notched their second of the season and of their LCU career (both are freshmen).
  • The Lady Chaps move to 2-1-1 in home games on the season, as Wednesday marked their first loss at home on the 2024 campaign.
  • LCU drops to 12-3-1 all-time in conference openers.
