AUSTIN, Texas (September 28, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over St. Edward's at Lewis-Chen Family Field, securing their first Lone Star Conference win of the season. Goals from Ella Spiller, Olivia Weider, and Bonnie Miller lifted the Lady Chaps to a 3-1 lead before holding off a late rally by St. Edward's to seal the road win.
With the victory, Lubbock Christian improved to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Lone Star action, while the Hilltoppers dropped to 2-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
How it Happened
Lubbock Christian opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Ella Spiller netted her second goal of the season, heading in a perfectly placed corner kick from McKenzie Jost. The Hilltoppers responded just before halftime, with Annie Rocha equalizing in the 40th minute.
Moments later, LCU regained the lead on a 40th-minute goal from Olivia Weider, her first of the season, after a cross from Spiller found Weider open in the box.
The Lady Chaps extended their lead to 3-1 in the 56th minute with an unassisted goal from Bonnie Miller, marking her first goal of the season. Miller became the fourth Lady Chap freshman to score this year and the team's eighth different goal scorer.
St. Edward's narrowed the gap in the 83rd minute with Rocha's second goal, assisted by Isabella Ruiz, but LCU held firm to secure the win.
