LCU Has Now Won Consecutive Lone Star Conference Matches, as they Shutout ENMU For a Fifth Consecutive Meeting

Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas (October 2, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University secured a dominant 5-0 win against Eastern New Mexico Wednesay at the friendly confines of the LCU Soccer and Track Complex. The Lady Chaps garnered their second consecutive Lone Star Conference win of the season.

Lubbock Christian rose to 4-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in Lone Star action with the victory. The Greyhounds fell to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in Lone Star play.

How it Happened

Lubbock Christian University jumped out to an early lead, with senior Kenley Blevins scoring her first goal of the season less than 13 minutes into the match. Freshman Journey Curs added a second goal shortly after, assisted by fellow freshman Lauren Rotan. The Lady Chaps carried their momentum into the second half, with Claire Jacobson netting her first of the season just 52 seconds into the period. Ella Spiller followed with her third goal of the year, and McKenzie Jost rounded out the scoring with her first career goal from a rebound to cap a three-goal second half for the Lady Chaps.

  • Lubbock Christian dominated the number of shots, with a 21-2 advantage, 14 of which were on goal. The 14 shots-on-goal marked a season high and the most since they had 14 against New Mexico Highlands on Sept. 9, 2023.
  • Goalkeeper Kara Murray recorded two saves in her first start of the season.
  • LCU had five goals and each were netted by a different Lady Chap. The five goals are LCU's highest output since scoring five at St. Edward's on Oct. 22, 2022, and the most at home since Sept. 20, 2019 against Wayland Baptist.
  • Journey Curs becomes the third Lady Chap multi-goal scorer this season, as she scored her second goal of the season.
  • Ella Spiller's goal was her team-leading third of the season.
  • LCU adds to their series lead, now holding a 5-1-2 all-time record against ENMU.
  • LCU, with their highest score tally and biggest win margin ever against ENMU, has shutout ENMU in six of their eight all-time meetings, including five straight. ENMU has gone a span of 488:32 (still active) without scoring a goal against LCU all-time.
  •  The Lady Chaps are unbeaten in their last six meetings against ENMU (LCU is 4-0-2 in the span).
What's Next?

The Lady Chaps will look to stay hot and climb atop the conference standings. Their next match will be against the St. Mary's Rattlers in San Antonio. The Rattlers enter the match at 4-3-1 and 2-1-0 in Lone Star action. LCU will be in pursuit of a third consecutive conference victory, while St. Mary's will be looking to rebound from a 3-0 loss on the road against UT Tyler.
