LUBBOCK, Texas (January 21, 2025) – The Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals tennis team, is set to resume their 2024-25 campaign this weekend with the start of their spring schedule. The Chaps have 24 regular season duals and a trio of exhibition duals matches against NCAA Division I programs on the docket.
The spring season begins Saturday, Jan. 25, with an exhibition at Abilene Christian in Abilene, Texas. The Chaps will then head down the road to Texas Tech, who is hosting two neutral-site exhibitions at the McLeod Tennis Center, facing UT Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 1 and New Mexico State on Feb. 2.
A three-day trip to Kearney, Nebraska, follows with regular season matches against Concordia (Neb.) and host Nebraska-Kearney on Feb. 7, concluding with Augustana on Feb. 8. The Chaparrals continue on the road for neutral-site matches in Edmond, Oklahoma, against Northwest Missouri State and Rockhurst on Feb. 15-16.
The team will then compete in Tyler, Texas, from Feb. 21-23, taking on Delta State, Mississippi College, and Harding. March opens with back-to-back home duals at the Penny Gullo Tennis Center against Metropolitan State Denver and Emporia State on March 1. A packed mid-March schedule includes stops in Midlothian, Plano, and California, with opponents such as Southern Arkansas, Concordia Irvine, Azusa Pacific, and Point Loma Nazarene.
The Lone Star Conference (LSC) slate begins March 28 at home against Midwestern State, kicking off a string of crucial matches in Lubbock, including duals against Cameron, St. Mary's, UT Permian Basin, Western New Mexico, and Sul Ross State. The Chaps will finish the regular season on the road against Dallas Baptist on April 24 and UT Tyler on April 25.
Postseason play begins with the Lone Star Conference Championships in Arlington, Texas, on May 1. Should the Chaparrals qualify, they will compete in the NCAA South Central Regional starting May 9 and the NCAA Division II Championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida, beginning May 20.
Of LCU's 24 regular season matches, eight are at home, six are on the road and 10 are neutral site dual events. Led by head coach
Jason Speegle, the Chaps are aiming to build on a 2-1 record (carrying over from the fall schedule) and are seeking their third consecutive NCAA postseason berth.
