LUBBOCK, Texas (January 25, 2025) - Lubbock Christian had a great offensive afternoon and needed every bit of it, shooting 51.9 percent from three-point range on the way to an 89-77 victory against Cameron on Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center.
Â
The Chaparrals (14-6, 9-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Najeeb Muhammad, who tied his career high with 26 points and added in six assists, two rebounds, a steal and a clutch block late in the game. Muhammad's 24th point of the game, which came on a free throw with 39 seconds left, was the 1000th of his Lubbock Christian career. The Las Vegas native is in his third season as a Chaparral starter.
Â
Ty Caswell scored 20 points in the win, 18 of which came from behind the arc, and Ethan Duncan helped out with 16 points.

The win was just the second this season for the Chaparrals on a Saturday, despite going 12-1 on the other six days of the week. They are now 2-5 in games played on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaps shot a scorching 61.5 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including 8-13 from behind the arc, a mark that would normally lead to a comfortable lead. On the other side though, Cameron nearly matched them, shooting 60 percent from the field themselves to keep the game close.
Falling behind by as many as six early and still trailing19-16 at the 12;22 mark, Lubbock Christian went on a 9-0 run, culminating in a three from Duncan, to take a 25-19 lead. Cameron immediately responded with a 6-0 run of their own to re-tie the game.
The trading of runs continued at the 6:09 mark, when a Caswell three sparked a 9-2 Chaparral run. Sean Murphy made a layup with the foul with 1:47 left in the half to put LCU up by 10, but the Aggies ended the half on a 7-0 run to trail by just three at the break.
Kendall Dow was a key part of LCU's first half success, scoring all eight of his points in the opening 20 minutes.
Back-to-back three-pointers opened the half for the Chaps and they quickly opened up a 14-point lead, but Cameron wouldn't go down without a fight. An 8-0 run with just over 10 minutes to play, and the Aggies pulled within one when Miles Gurske hit a three-pointer at the 3:40 mark.
Murphy hit free throws on the ensuing LCU possession and Muhammad's block on the other end of the floor sparked the Chaps to score seven more unanswered points and create some breathing room.
Lubbock Christian closed out the win at the free throw line, where they shot 89.5 percent for the game.
