Four Chaps Finish in Double-Figures

LUBBOCK, Texas (January 9, 2025) -- Lubbock Christian was plus-12 in the turnover column on Thursday night, handling Sul Ross State 84-54 inside the Rip Griffin Center.

The 19 turnovers forced are the second-most by the Chaparrals (11-4, 6-1) this season, behind only the 23 they got from Arlington Baptist.

Four LCU players scored in double figures, led by Ty Caswell, who had 18 points, six rebounds and two steals. Trey Thompson added 13 points off the bench and Najeeb Muhammad and Kendall Dow chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Chaparral offense was productive from three point land, pouring in 12 threes on 28 attempts. Caswell was 4-7 from behind the arc and 7-12 overall. Lubbock Christian shot 55.4 percent overall. It was the eighth time this season they have shot better than 50 percent, and they are 8-0 in those contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 7-4, Lubbock Christian went on a 7-0 run with 17:40 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Amondo Miller Jr., to take an 11-7 lead. They would not trail the rest of the game.

The Lobos kept within striking distance for a little while longer before the Chaps got hot from behind the arc. Caswell hit on back-to-back attempts from long range, followed by three from Muhammad and Thompson as part of a 12-2 Lubbock Christian run that put them up 12.

LCU led by as many as 16 in the opening period when Aaron Gonzales hit a three-pointer at the 5:59 mark, and the Chaps went into the break up by 11.

A jumper from Caswell early in the second half sparked a 13-0 Lubbock Christian run that put them up by 23 and pretty much put the game out of reach. LCU's lead first reach the 30-point mark with 3:07 left to play on a Dow three-pointer and got to its widest margin of  33 with just over a minute to go.

SRSU hit a three of their own just before the final horn sounded.
