LUBBOCK, Texas (October 22, 2025) — Texas Woman's edged past Lubbock Christian University 1-0 on Wednesday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
The Pioneers scored the lone goal in the first half, which proved decisive. The Lady Chaps struggled to break through, managing only two shots on target. The game was tense as the Chaps' defense held firm in the second half, with their goalkeeper recording three saves to keep the match within reach.
Lubbock Christian holds a record of 6-5-2 overall and 4-3-2 in conference play. Texas Woman's stands at 10-2-3 overall and 6-2-3 in conference competition.
The match began with the Lady Chaps establishing their presence on the field, and their first significant attempt on goal came in the 18th minute from
Claire Jacobson, whose shot went wide. Despite creating opportunities, the Lady Chaps faced a persistent Texas Woman's defense.
As the half wore on, Texas Woman's capitalized on a late corner kick in the 44th minute, with Nadia Araiza scoring from an assist by Ailyn Oliveros and Mia Thaxton. This goal provided Texas Woman's with a 1-0 lead at halftime, as Lubbock Christian looked to regroup and respond after the break.
The second period began with the Lady Chaps attempting to regain momentum.
Emma Wright made a crucial save against a shot by Bri Luna in the 51st minute, maintaining the defensive stand.
Ella Spiller had probably the best LCU chance all game, as she nearly equalized with a shot that struck the top woodwork in the 53rd minute, showcasing the team's offensive push.
As the period continued, Wright remained pivotal, securing another save against Bella Alfaro's attempt in the 78th minute.
Journey Curs and
Riley Espinoza both tested the opposing goalkeeper, Faith Graves, who managed to keep Texas Woman's lead intact. The period concluded with the Chaps trailing 1-0, unable to find the back of the net despite multiple efforts.
Emma Wright recorded three saves while facing 12 shots, conceding only one goal in the match. Curs had one shot, which was on target, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Espinoza took two shots, with one being on goal, adding pressure to the opponent's defense.
Casey Storer and
Mia Chambliss each registered a shot attempt, further participating in the attack.
GAME NOTES:
- The Lone Star Conference has now switched to ranking teams by conference points per game, due to games canceled for weather. LCU is now averaging 1.75 per game, putting them in seventh.
- The Lady Chaps have been held scoreless for two straight games. Their last goal came in the Oct. 8 game against Texas A&M International.
- Wright made three saves in the loss, bringing her season total to 43.
- The Chaps' two shots on goal were their second-fewest in a single game this season, behind only the Sept. 24 game against Midwestern State.
- The Lady Chaps finished the game with six total shots, led by Espinoza's two.
