CANYON, Texas (October 29, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University secured a 2-1 victory over West Texas A&M University on Wednesday at The Pitch at Buffalo Sports Park, getting a last-minute goal from
Logan Holloway to secure the Rivalry on the Range victory.
LCU's offensive pressure was evident with 22 shots, 15 of which were on target. A decisive goal in the second half, coupled with a strong performance by their goalkeeper, who made seven saves, sealed the win. West Texas A&M managed to score once in the second half but could not overcome the deficit.
Lubbock Christian holds a record of 7-6-2 overall and is 5-4-2 in conference play. West Texas A&M stands at 6-8-2 overall with a 3-8-1 mark in their conference.
Emma Wright recorded seven saves while allowing only one goal in a complete 90-minute performance. Holloway scored the game-winning goal with just 1:03 left on the clock, finding the back of the net with one of her two shots, both of which were on target.
Ella Spiller contributed an assist and registered three shots on goal.
Riley Espinoza added a goal to her tally, taking a total of seven shots with five on target.
Early in the match, the Lady Chaps' offense launched a series of shots, with Spiller and Espinoza testing the opposing goalkeeper but finding no success initially. LCU had a chance in just the sixth minute when they earned a penalty kick, but Spiller's attempt was saved by the WT keeper.
Momentum shifted in the 22nd minute when Espinoza scored, giving the Chaps a 1-0 lead. Wright played a crucial role in maintaining the lead, saving multiple attempts from West Texas A&M. The half closed with the Lady Chaps ahead 1-0, capitalizing on their offensive efforts while keeping the opposition scoreless.
The second half began with an intense back-and-forth as both teams sought to break through. LCU'S defense, anchored by Wright, successfully thwarted early attempts from West Texas A&M, including a 46th-minute shot by Jezmin Castellanos Reyes that was saved. Despite multiple efforts from the Lady Chaps, including shots by
Bonnie Miller and
Journey Curs, the opposing goalkeeper managed to keep them at bay.
As the half advanced, West Texas A&M broke through in the 85th minute with a goal by Sydney Martin, momentarily evening the balance. However, the Lady Chaps responded swiftly when Holloway netted a crucial goal in the 89th minute, assisted by Spiller, securing a 2-1 victory.
GAME NOTES:
- Holloway's goal was her first of the season, making her the 11th different Lady Chap to find the back of the net this year
- Spiller's assist on the goal was her fifth of the season, tying her with Espinoza for the team lead
- The Lady Chaps racked up a whopping 15 shots on goal, which is their most in a single game since Sept. 2, 2022, when they had 18 against New Mexico Highlands
- Wright had seven saves, tied for her second-most in a single game this season
- Wednesday was LCU's third women's soccer win against West Texas A&M all-time (3-3-2)
