De Los Rios Leads Deep LCU Run at ITA South Central Regional

Senior De Los Rios Reaches Singles Final as LCU Places Four in Quarterfinals and Three Doubles Teams Among Top Eight

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (October 6, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University men's tennis delivered one of its most balanced team performances in recent ITA South Central Regional history, producing a singles finalist, three quarterfinal doubles teams, and a pair of semifinal appearances at the MSU Tennis Center. The Chaparrals didn't secure an automatic ITA Cup berth, but multiple standout runs — including a finals appearance by senior Andres De Los Rios — kept LCU firmly among the region's elite programs as at-large selections remain pending.

De Los Rios, the No. 14 seed, turned in a statement tournament by storming through the top singles draw, collecting four wins over seeded opponents, including No. 6 Noe Milliard (Cameron), No. 9 Germano Setti (Midwestern State), and top-seeded teammate Kelly Giese in a thrilling 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) semifinal. His run ended in the championship against Cameron's Lukas Janousek (16), but De Los Rios closed the regional with a 10-2 season record. Giese advanced to the semifinals with dominant straight-set victories over No. 10 Despodov (UT Tyler) and No. 12 Duque (MSU), while No. 2-seed Pablo Segura reached the quarterfinals. Senior Mattia Ghedin also made the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Janousek, giving LCU four of the tournament's final eight competitors (and two of the last four).

In doubles play, the Chaparrals advanced three teams to the quarterfinals of the top flight. No. 3-seed Ghedin / Marco Seccia reached the quarters before bowing out to eventual champions Duque / Sanchez (MSU), while No. 5-seed Giese / Segura fell in a tiebreak to the No. 4-seeded MSU tandem of Earle / Setti. The No. 8-seed duo of De Los Rios / Jordan Georgiev produced the team's highlight win, upsetting No. 2-seed Dorofeev / Poulesquen (UT Tyler) before an injury withdrawal in the semifinals halted their tournament play (they remain unbeaten this season at 6-0).

The Chaparrals finished the regional with a 22-12 record in singles play, headlined by strong play from Giese (6-2 singles this season), Segura (6-1 singles this season), and De Los Rios (10-2 singles this season). De Los Rios went a combined 8-1 if you mix in his doubles play on the weekend. The showing reinforces LCU's depth and consistency across both flights as the team now awaits ITA Cup at-large decisions and continues preparations for its fall finale later this month (Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge hosted by SMU in Dallas beginning Oct. 31).
