Defensive Dominance: LCU Earns Third-Straight Shutout in TAMIU Win

Spiller Reaches Double-Digit Goal Mark

LAREDO, Texas (October 8, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University edged Texas A&M International University 1-0 on Wednesday at Dustdevil Field.

The decisive goal came in the first half, accompanied by a strong defensive effort by the Chaparrals, as their goalkeeper recorded seven saves to secure the shutout. Despite Texas A&M International's 15-shot attempts, they were unable to find the back of the net, resulting in LCU's victory.

LCU improved to 6-3-2 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play with the victory. Texas A&M International fell to 1-5-2 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play following the loss.

The first half saw the Lady Chaps establish early pressure, with Ella Spiller taking an initial shot just 40 seconds into play. Despite several attempts, including two saved efforts by Mia Chambliss, it was Spiller who capitalized at the 21st minute, scoring the game's lone goal with an assist from Bonnie Miller, putting LCU in the lead.

Texas A&M International responded with a series of offensive efforts, notably two shots saved by LCU's goalkeeper, Emma Wright. However, the Chaps' defense held firm, maintaining the shutout. The half concluded with LCU leading 1-0.

The second half began with LCU maintaining their defensive resilience. Wright's goalkeeping was evident as she made multiple crucial saves, denying Texas A&M International's attempts to change the score. Notably, she saved shots from Julissa Gonzalez and Loren Perez Barrera among others, keeping the home side at bay.

LCU also pushed offensively, with Riley Espinoza and Spiller recording shots, although they did not find the target. As the half wore on, LCU continued to hold off Texas A&M International's advances. The match concluded with LCU securing a 1-0 victory, maintaining their lead from the first half.

Wright posted a shutout by making seven saves across 90 minutes, contributing significantly to the team's defensive effort. Miller added an assist, creating an opportunity that led to a goal. Spiller scored the only goal of the match, which was also the game-winner, coming from one of her five shots. The sophomore has now scored the game-winner in four of LCU's six victories
